| Metal bands selling out
Bands that, for one reason or another, made a complete 180 turn in their sound to make music that would be more appealing to a broad, generic, mainstream audience instead of progressing their sound.
For the record, the albums here aren't necessarily the result of the band "selling out" but nonetheless are albums that very much seem as such. | 1 | | Linkin Park One More Light
blah. this album made it very apparent LP doesn't really care about metal or a heavier sound anymore. one of the most drastic turns in sound I've ever witnessed. who okayed this?
RIP Chester. | 2 | | Nine Lashes Ascend
"LETS MAKE CHRISTIAN WORSHIP TO PROVE WE LOVE JESUS YEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHā | 3 | | Thousand Foot Krutch Oxygen: Inhale
I don't think this is too terrible but...yeah this is pretty blah. same as above ^ | 4 | | Korn The Path of Totality | 5 | | Red (USA) Release the Panic
Not a total departure, but lacking several key elements that made them distinct. Not to mention much poppier in sound. | 6 | | Linkin Park Minutes to Midnight
Again, their sound is KINDA there, but this album screams "oh crap we gotta be mature now". Honestly, I like this album, but I can't look at this and truly say it was true experimentation or progression, rather a safe album. | 7 | | Disturbed Evolution
This is extremely painful. | 8 | | Adema Planets
I don't mind this album but its pretty symptomatic of mid 2000's "oh crap nu metal's angsty gotta be mature now"-itis. Albums like this dropped all the downtuned guitars and fun for super MATOORE stuff like forgettable riffs, generic/ambiguous lyrics, and boring musical composition. Neat, very mature of you. Your peers are too busy sleeping to make fun of you now, congratulations.
...for the record this is still better than unstable. | 9 | | Mudvayne The New Game | 10 | | Metallica St. Anger
HEY GUYS THIS NU METAL THING IS POPULAR LETS MAKE SOME OF THAT
tbh I kinda like this album despite the crap production | 11 | | Taproot Our Long Road Home

a fucking P-O-(O)-P band š¤ | TheSupernatural
01.01.21 | From the beginning the whole purpose of Linkin Park was to be a super popular band and they were massive even before Minutes to midnight.
The whole notion of bands "selling out" is really childish. There's a few bands that might be genuinely after the bucks but if you're into metal in the first place (it's very debatable whether some of these bands were ever metal), you weren't in it for the money. Most likely their tastes just changed. Even when bands reinvent themselves as pop bands and get way more popular (Fall Out Boy, Paramore, even Bring Me the Horizon), I don't understand the cynicism. People's tastes change, and that includes the musicians who make the music. | MxL0
01.01.21 | Its not cynicism, its bands throwing away everything that made them good for a more predictable, uninteresting, mainstream sound. For the record, I like half of these albums, I just find them to be a lot weaker. I understand wanting to make a bigger audience to get the bills paid, but at the same time, as you say, if you're doing metal you're not in it for the money.
And yeah, their tastes do change, so in LP's case I say make a new band. Calling OML a "LP" record is to me like calling Justin Bieber's latest a Metallica album. Bands change and so do people, but if you have a brand people come to expect something from them. I wouldn't listen to Despacito to to get in good headbanging, nor would I would I want OML after years of LP establishing themselves as a rock band.
I understand bands change, I just wish if they were to change they do it naturally. Bands "sell out" when this change isn't natural, and when its for a sound they likely did not make out of passion. If music isn't made out of a place of passion, it just doesn't resonate as much. | zaruyache

01.03.21 | Like I said I like half of these albums, including St. Anger. Its just funny to see how many of these there are.

01.03.21 | The New Game is underrated/overhated |
