G-unit: The LP's Ranked
There was a time where the 50 fronted rap group had both the mainstream and the hip hop circles in their hands. FYI I use the term "Gangsta Rap" for the themes and sound that G-unit and many others carried on from the 90's in the early 2000's. |
1 | | Lloyd Banks Rotten Apple
Interesting choice for #1 I know, But Lloyd Banks was always the most Lyrical from the group, hit singles was secondary. What we have here is a grimy LP maybe lacking high energy bangers, but instead carried by Banks's laser-pointed punchlines, an underrated NY Classic. |
2 | | Lloyd Banks The Hunger For More
Often Hailed as a Classic in the hip hop scene, This LP proved that Lloyd Banks could hold his own with the best of them. |
3 | | 50 Cent The Massacre
50's most full, rounded effort, if you excuse the unbelievable cheese that is "Candy Shop" this album showcased everything that was great about G-unit. |
4 | | 50 Cent Get Rich or Die Tryin'
Couple of Clunkers on here stop this from being the best 50 LP, a classic all the same though. |
5 | | G-Unit Beg For Mercy
back in 2003, G-unit exploded as a collective with "Beg For Mercy", although pretty over-stuffed and a long listen, whats there is straight up great old school gangsta rap. |
6 | | Young Buck Buck the World
On This Album Buck really found his feet, shame as it was his last significant contribution to the Hip Hop World. |
7 | | Lloyd Banks H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More 2)
Not as good as the original, however The Hunger For More 2 proved that, in 2010, years after G-unit's popularity had died - Lloyd Banks still had plenty to say. |
8 | | G-Unit Terminate On Sight
in 2008 Gangsta Rap had been killed in Favour of the lighter more palatable Hip Hop that Kanye had been introducing to the world for a few years now, but that still did not soften the blow G-unit made with this LP, Gangsta rap's final bow. |
9 | | Young Buck Straight Outta Cashville
At Times Pedestrian, but never boring. |
10 | | The Game The Documentary
It's Hard to ignore 50's contributions and just how great they made this album, and appreciate it for Game's prowess on it's own - however it should be noted that Game's willingness to experiment and ability to rap his ass off ended up with him outlasting the rest of the crew despite being infamously ousted. |
11 | | 50 Cent Before I Self Destruct
An angry, at times one-sided listen. |
12 | | 50 Cent Curtis
The first stumble for the group commercially and artistically and critically, when this album went against Kanye's "Graduation" back in 2007, it was a complete changing of the Guards. |
13 | | 50 Cent Animal Ambition
very outdated LP with a few great moments. |
14 | | Tony Yayo Thoughts Of A Predicate Felon
Anyone who knows G-unit knew this was gonna be dead last. |
