10.26.20 | In Germany people are getting lazier by each day - but in comparison to other countries we are still in pretty good shape tbqh. I still hate those dumbass protesters in covid-hotspot Berlin who are running around without masks and spreading all this shit and don't recognize that they are pretty much a big part of the problem. Personally, I don't have much problems with covid. working from home, reading a lot and listening to music - everything's fine. Hope y'all are fine too |

10.26.20 | only sad thing was that I stepped down from visiting the Video Game Music Festival in Poland, where a classical orchestra played music from some of my favourite games like Divinity Original Sin 2 or Hades. That sucked. |

10.26.20 | My county has very loosely followed the lockdown and distancing guidelines and Covid has been a non-issue here the entire time. Plus my work has been mostly unaffected aside from having to wear a mask, so it's been life as usual for me. |

Cases in my county are going up, people are growing more and more bitter and I don't think I can deal with a customer service job much longer. People around here were assholes before this pandemic bs. I'm losing my god damn mind. |
Hyperion1001
10.27.20 | in all honestly theres nothing we can do anymore, at least in the US. we lost, and it's 100% because of a massive institutional failure and not joe bob whatever who doesnt like masks.
the best we can hope for at this point is that people actually take the vaccine, and that's already a grim prospect. oh well, keep rollin that boulder i guess haha. |

10.27.20 | 16 percent of the population in my city is responsible for over 70 percent of our county's covid cases, so it is a little bit about masking. |

10.27.20 | Over here in Japan the government's been sweeping real COVID infection and fatality numbers under the rug since this all began. Tests are hard to come by. Most people fear it because of the social stigma that comes with a positive result.
The state of emergency was lifted back in August and it's been business as usual since then. Restaurants and bars are operating just like they used to. We're all masked up but beyond that, nothing worthy of mention is being done to beat the disease. There was never a lockdown to begin with, just soft guidelines. Oh, well we did get $1000 bucks in April.
The corona fatigue settled gradually and now people have had it, I guess. We'll probably be seeing a spike in infections after Halloween. No end in sight. Just waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 basically. |

10.27.20 | Here in Portugal we are in the second wave. The first wave was pretty calm but this one is growing very quickly. We need to use a mask publicly and probably we are going to have a new state of emergency with the forbiden of circulation at night after 11 pm, as is happening with many European countries. There's a growing concern about the possible congestion of the hospital services in a short time. So, the things here aren'y great. |

10.27.20 | In Hong Kong, the virus is under control. About 1 new locally-acquired case per day (7.4 million people live here). Nevertheless, you can only have 4 people at a table at a restaurant. Weddings can have 50 people. Bars have to close at 10:00. Gatherings outside are limited to 10 people, but enforcement of that is more about the political situation. Schools are open, but with precautions. Everyone wears a mask in public. Everyone takes it seriously. They were really traumatized by SARS back in '02/'03. |

10.27.20 | one thing that is pretty much pissing me off right now is the mentality "Oh, I need to do XY or meet person Z before the next lockdown comes" - well guess what? If everybody's thinking that way you will summon the next lockdown even faster and all by yourselves you stupid pricks. |
Colton
10.27.20 | My bad smaugman. Dealt with so many conspiracy theorists that I kinda just assume at this point |
Gyromania
10.27.20 | The problem is that after every single shutdown or major restriction impositions, rate of infection is going to surge after things reopen. I think the only realistic outcome is that we're all going to eventually get C19, but at least by keeping restrictions up we can help ease the load on hospitals so they don't become overburdened, especially with flu season right around the corner |
Colton
10.27.20 | Rate of infection won’t surge too badly after reopening if 1) cases are lowered drastically enough as a result of the lockdown and 2) people continue taking the virus seriously even after numbers go down, like they do in China. But that just won’t happen in America and I don’t think it’ll happen in Canada either |
Gyromania
10.27.20 | It doesn't matter if they're reduced because once things reopen and restrictions become lax, infection will naturally surge. Even if 20 people have it, it just takes 1 person to spread it to one other who then spreads it to 10 others, then 30, then 100 and so on |
e210013
10.27.20 | This is the problem of the de Western democratic countries. People tend to put his own rights above the collective rights. So, for China was very easy to put their rules easily. Besides, the oriental cultures have a different way to see and live the things. |
Intothepit
10.27.20 | Did he just say oriental cultures? |
Colton
10.27.20 | But it will surge much slower than it would otherwise because the numbers will decline exponentially. Will still be an issue, but it’ll be slowed down and hospitals will be much more equipped to deal with it |
e210013
10.27.20 | Not necessarily, but above all them. |
Gyromania
10.27.20 | Yeah agreed Colton. Like my point is that getting it seems inevitable but I'm all for restrictions so as not to overburden hospitals. That's the thing people tend to skip over when they say we should 100% reopen and just deal with it. |
e210013
10.27.20 | I agree. This is the main problem. People tend to skip out the hospitalar problem. |
smaugman
10.27.20 | what i have spotted very easily is how the situation is viewed by different countries: in the US, one half of people seem to be very preoccupied with social distancing and the other think it's fake, while in norway people have a way more mellow attitude to everything |
Prancer
10.27.20 | "I think the only realistic outcome is that we're all going to eventually get C19..."
we're finding out the antibodies for the virus don't last that long, so if you think this is the only realistic outcome then people are going to keep dying. |
Rolling Girl
10.27.20 | And now that football season is picking up in the US, every asshole in town is crowding towards bars and what not and throwing parties and I just...can't fathom how people think this is a smart idea. 10.27.20 | What is most incomprehensible to me is the different criterias about the reunion of people in my country. For instance, more of five persons together is forbidden in the streets. In soccer games there can only be about 3,000 people with some distance safe distance about 2 meters. But in the last weekend in my coutry, approximately 30,000 people were authorized to be in Algarve to see the race of Formula One World Championship. And they were very close to each other. Are these kind of discrepancies that made people don't undersatnd and fulffil the rules. |

10.27.20 | "Antibodies don't last long but this is true of other viruses too. I don't think herd immunity is impossible. I'm not sure what the % of reinfection is though."
it is already proven that the virus is able to mutate, therefore I would not count on herd immunity. In Denmark the virus spread in some pelt farm to minks and mutated in a way that is still infectious for humans. disgusting shit. |
EclipseInYourEyes
10.27.20 | "Besides, the oriental cultures have a different way to see and live the things."
actually, there are some pretty interesting studies regarding morals in western democratic societies vs asian societies (I cannot recall which one exactly). people in both societies were presented a moral dilemma: in a fictional town, there is a crime which will cause a riot and probably deaths if the police won't catch the criminals. people were asked if they would agree to find a random scapegoat to avoid the rioting. western people said no, cuz it would harm the individual rights of the scapegoat. people in the asian society said, that it's okay cuz the overall damage for the society is bigger than for this exact individual and collective values are more important.
tl;dr it makes sense that chinese people have their shit together regarding dealing with covid. |

10.28.20 | @Spooky Nearly all of them, although we have ~400 dead. However, its been proven that corona can cause damage to heart, lungs, and brain in ways that aren't immediately noticeable - we have had almost no time to study the long-term effects of such a relatively new disease. It sure doesn't help that tens of millions of Americans have conditions like heart disease, diabetes, etc. that can be exacerbated by corona. Including myself, with a blood clotting disorder and potential heart disease. People like you throwing around shit like "oh what's the point of wearing masks haha" only create attitudes that make it more dangerous for others.
So go shove it, dude. |
LeddSledd
10.28.20 | As for "contradicting themselves", exactly when was the last pandemic that occurred in the last century within a modernized society? Even the top disease experts aren't 100% sure what is going to work to prevent the spread. We are watching science unfold before us as they, too, learn what works and what doesn't. LeddSledd
10.28.20 | they both have a point. the way corona has been handled hasn't been consistent; some areas have cracked down too much, too late, or too early, and others have yet to at all. you can't look at either viewpoint as lying or entirely factual. but i'd rather be doing a better job than no job at all |
Colton
10.28.20 | and I'm sure the 1000 healthcare workers who have died from covid in the US alone also thought it was overblown |
HalfManHalfAmazing
10.28.20 | A decent compromise in America politically would be much much wider and more available testing. I'm really weary of the Democrats because they seem to think curb-stomping the economy with a scorched earth lockdown approach (and likely compromising the financial prospects of young Americans) is the best way to go. Not even the WHO supports this shit. And the Republicans might as well be ducking their head in the sand pretending the virus doesn't exist. The BS mask-denialism is stupid af, too.
IF THE US HAD FREE, WIDELY AVAILABLE, 15-MINUTE TESTS... we could safely re-open society responsibly and manage cases until a proven, effective vaccine can be distributed en masse. Couple that with mask-wearing and we would totally be ok until the vaccines come rolling around. But no, in America even a pandemic is political. What we are left with is a "worst of both worlds," where some states are on heavy economic lockdown leading to double digit unemployment rates and others are implementing very minimal restrictions/ public health measures and hence continue to seed cases all over America. Smh. |
El Olam
10.28.20 | I'm actually referring to my own doctor but keep talking like you know what the facts are Colton |

LeddSledd
10.28.20 | @HalfMan we can't get shit done around these parts because literally anything will be made political if it can be, most likely because nearly all the people making decisions are a) distanced from infection b) financially secure or c) will be dead before any real consequence comes to be. "everyone who thinks any differently from me is evil" and that's hardly an exaggeration of the current state of American politics |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.28.20 | spooky do you not understand how breathing works serious question |
El Olam
10.28.20 | @Ledd not sure testing oxygen levels while wearing masks would change how it's being handled but I did it at my doctor's and my levels dropped. Only a few percent after 5 minutes but everyone could vary. It's the damage to your immune system long term is what's scary. Lack of oxygen to the brain raises your cortisol levels and makes your immune system work harder, weakening itself. |
El Olam
10.28.20 | Inhale exhale potsy |

10.28.20 | You're right, LeddSledd. The people running the country have no skin in the game. 10.28.20 | Hey halfman I'm speaking from my experience and you from yours and I beleive you dude. Just because you don't feel side effects doesn't mean your body isn't working differently and unnaturally. I'm not saying every little detail is propaganda lol just some |
HalfManHalfAmazing
10.28.20 | If there were serious consequences to face mask wearing that actually posed a danger to public health, wouldn't those consequences have materialized already? Some people working high-risk jobs have worn masks consistently since mid-March. I just highly doubt there are real, even "long-term" side-effects to face mask wearing. Where's the evidence, bro? Otherwise, even personal anecdotes are just speculation. |
Ryus
10.28.20 | "IF THE US HAD FREE, WIDELY AVAILABLE, 15-MINUTE TESTS... we could safely re-open society responsibly and manage cases until a proven, effective vaccine can be distributed en masse. Couple that with mask-wearing and we would totally be ok until the vaccines come rolling around."
yeah this is basically what my college has done, people get tested twice a week and our cases are super low |
El Olam
10.28.20 | Ok you're right about the speculation from my experience but my doctor and many others have said this virus isn't remotely as contagious as it's being portrayed and there's no reason for us to wear masks. The numbers are completely inaccurate and though I can't prove that, neither can you or anyone else that they ARE accurate. I personally had a respiratory infection from wearing my mask while cooking over a large flat top 8-10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Dripping sweat from my mask, breathing in hot and moist air all day long. I got physically ill and have to take a lot of time off. No it was NOT covid lol |
El Olam
10.28.20 | I'm done with it though and halfman it's not political for me, I do wear my mask everywhere obviously or I wouldn't be able to do anything.. Just a very insane thing we are going through regardless |
HalfManHalfAmazing
10.28.20 | What are their grounds for saying it isn't as remotely as contagious as it's being portrayed?
On what grounds are you saying the numbers are completely inaccurate (so you're saying the 8 million+ cases of Covid we've had in the US are partially fake)?
How do you know that illness was from breathing in hot and moist air, made worse by a surgical mask? |
HalfManHalfAmazing
10.28.20 | Ryus, our country is wealth enough to do that but lacks the political will to do so.. |
HalfManHalfAmazing
10.28.20 | Ok Sp00ky if you don't want to discuss any further it's fine but there should be some substance behind your claims and they shouldn't just be speculation informed by literally whos? on twitter/ your personal life |

10.28.20 | Had an old friend from high school test positive last week, and he went from feeling completely normal to running a high fever and feeling like his lungs were on fire in less than 24 hours after the test. Scary shit, and it's extremely bad atm in my area. |
zaruyache
10.28.20 | it still hasn't hit many rural areas yet, so using anecdotes about "heathcare workers in my area" don't really prove anything. There *are* major resurgences and hospital room shortages in cities across the country now, again, so I think the healthcare workers there probably have different opinions on it than, say, my cousin the nurse who potentially hasn't ever made contact with an infected person yet bc this is a super rural area. |

10.28.20 | it is starting to creep in here, though. Can't wait for the third wave to really start hitting after thanksgiving. |

10.28.20 | TBH, I'm enjoying the fuck out of wearing a mask. It's not often that a dark skinned man can walk around stores with his face covered and wearing sunglasses and not get suspicious looks or followed by security. We need to normalise this shit. |
beefshoes
10.28.20 | It's hit extremely hard throughout even the most rural parts of West Virginia. But sadly, the majority of people here believe it's a political hoax, overblown, and there are next to no social distancing or mask ordinances. It's just up to individual businesses, with almost none of them doing it.
I actually don't mind masks either Sitar. It's gives a really nice sense of anonymity that I have grown to admire. They never bothered me in the first place though, but I can see how someone doing manual labour would hate it of course. |

10.28.20 | ""Besides, the oriental cultures have a different way to see and live the things."
actually, there are some pretty interesting studies regarding morals in western democratic societies vs asian societies (I cannot recall which one exactly). people in both societies were presented a moral dilemma: in a fictional town, there is a crime which will cause a riot and probably deaths if the police won't catch the criminals. people were asked if they would agree to find a random scapegoat to avoid the rioting. western people said no, cuz it would harm the individual rights of the scapegoat. people in the asian society said, that it's okay cuz the overall damage for the society is bigger than for this exact individual and collective values are more important.
tl;dr it makes sense that chinese people have their shit together regarding dealing with covid."

sorry, didn't mean that. just needed to boil down the essence - did not want it to sound anything like that. |

10.28.20 | also, regarding this mask discussion: surgeons were wearing masks lots of hours way before covid and I think there would already be huge evidence if it would damage the body - long term or immediately.
furthermore regarding this shady doctor saying the virus is not as contagious (btw there is a huge difference between general doctors or lung doctors and scientists): maybe the virus is not as contagious BECAUSE people wear masks, try to hold distance etc. |
