Heaviest Breakdowns (oldschool edition)

Here are a few of my favorite oldschool breakdowns in metalcore/hardcore. No particular order. Oldschool doesn't mean literally old here, it just stands for the musical style.
1Eighteen Visions
Oath

That breakdown at the end of the song just got everything you need:
downtuned guitars
doublebass
dissonances
gang vocals
and that 90s spoken word thing in the intro of the breakdown
2Poison the Well
Slice Paper Wrists

Classic.
so simple and effective. Jeff's vocals are so on point and aggressive here.
It's the definition of a breakdown for me.
3END (NJ)
Love Let Me Die

I was so hyped when this came out, because I knew that Brendan is digging the 90s/early 00s metalcore but I never expected it to be as heavy as this. fuck. These dissonances are killing me
4Walls of Jericho
I Know Hollywood and You Ain't It

02:09 - I just love how the drums are playing singlebass while the guitars are playing the gallop rhythm. This makes it so more heavy in my opinion.
5Evergreen Terrace
Rip This!

Oh yes, this is a classic breakdown from the picture book. We have a tempo change of about 20bpm and a heavy ass rhythm, opened by three heavy guitar palmmutes and an aggressive vocal line by Andrew "THE DREAM IS DEAD!"
6Unearth
Endless (The Oncoming Storm)

I remember when I saw them playing it live and when the breakdown hit, the crowd just got totally crazy. The rhythm pattern is just awesome. I could just fill this whole list with Unearth breakdowns.
7Architects
Early Grave

Old Architects were just so heavy. I love this breakdown at the end of Early Grave because it's so simple compared to rest of the song, which just makes the breakdown even heavier though.
Sam's vocals give me goosebumps everytime the breakdown kicks in. "The choices I've made will lead me to an early FUCKING GRAVE!" Holy shit.
8Neaera
Where Submission Reigns

I love this breakdown so much. The vocals are incredible here with Benjamin screaming "GOD'S WILL! OR YOUR WILL!". Especially the "or your will" sounds so desperate. The breakdown then leads into a swedish deathmetal kinda theme, which works as an awesome fade out for the track.
9Underoath
Breathing In A New Mentality

That breakdown at 01:22 just hit me out of nowhere when I heard it for the first time. The riffing here is so awesome. The vocals and the slight rhythmic shifts make it sound in no way generic. Underrated album in my opinion.
10It Dies Today
My Promise

The build up to the end-breakdown is almost riddiculous but that's what makes it a real oldschool metalcore breakdown in my opinion. The vocals are one of the most heavy and aggressive in early metalcore. I just love how the breakdown sounds kinda random but also extremely heavy at the same time.
