robertsona 09.17.20	monster azumanga daioh im 110 episodes into hunter ex hunter with my little brother and my sense so far is that the third arc rips the chimera ant arc to shreds. the stakes were so deliciously high with the phantom troupe, the nen hook to crapika's power so perfectly explained and delivered, the whole thing was just beautifully orchestrated to bring every character with their individual motivations together, not a false note, everything dovetailed spectacularly. the ant arc is cool but idk yet

hal1ax 09.17.20	i'm only on episode 411 but it still feels pretty fresh to me lol. i felt a similar way in the beginning but... the world Oda creates is so rich and expansive, there's just a seemingly inexhaustible amount of interesting characters, settings, cultures, plot developments, etc etc. it's also really light-hearted without ever feeling overly-casual or simple or inane... which ultimately makes it rly consumable for me.

hal1ax 09.17.20	a lot of anime comes off overly dramatic to me and it tends to affect shows' staying power. one piece does well to dispense with a lot of that while still being able to tread a lot of serious and complex topics, character transformation, slices of life, etc etc.

Which I think it's the one you are referring to.

aydross121 09.19.20	@sharkshanna What's great about hxh is that it starts like a generic shonen but slowly it starts to reveal itself as a deconstruction of the genre. That's why people like it, you think it's going to pull the tried-and-true formula but it never goes the easy way. The protagonist is kinda like if Goku lived in an universe where your actions do have consequences, and the consequences are equal in power to your actions in some cases. Mild spoilers: He even goes "reverse super-saiyan" in the sense that he gains power really fast but with fucked up consequences, it's not even empowering, it's kinda sad and terrifying when it happens.
