08.17.20 | i'm basically asking if there's such thing as a band that sounds like Diocletian but doesn't rep shithead ideologies
anyone rolling in with "separate the music from the artist" hot takes, or worse, "wHY dOeS iT MaTtER yOu PUssY" opinions will be ignored. you do you, but i've already made my decision on that. |

Ignimbrite
08.17.20 | yeah i was admittedly a bit slow on the uptake there
in my defense, i was almost entirely familiar with them through Gesundrian, which i don't think has any super obvious sketch vibes. Among the Flames, on the other hand, is just straight up nazi garbage |

08.17.20 | "I thought 2 was a bit obvious"
Recently heard some stuff about how a member of this band was pretty pro-black lives matter actually. Brendan Southwell, the guy who reformed the band for their last album, is a white supremacist but I'd like to think that since he's the only returning member that the others maybe aren't so bad. Their newest one is the only album of theirs that I've noticed any obviously racist as shit lyrics.
I broadly assume every war metal band is sketchy unless shown otherwise. Blasphemy are fairly clean (black guy in the band and they hate white power skinheads I think) and I've heard Teitenblood are ok. Baneblade are a kinda cool band in the same vein as Sankara with the aggressive antifash/communist slant and a light industrial flourish. The singer is recording vocals for a war metal demo I've been working on too. Gesundrian is my main influence so hopefully it channels some of that energy.
Oh and I believe one of the guys from Conqueror (J. Read maybe?) has said some really fucking racist shit in interviews, but can't confirm for sure. I can maybe try to source that later unless someone else wants to do it. |

08.17.20 | ugh, i'll take your word for it. the album title should've given it away. |
Deathconscious
08.18.20 | Infernal Coil - Within a World Forgotten
Nuclear Desecration - Desecrated Temple of Impurity
Weregoat - Unholy Exaltation of Fullmoon Perversity
Bestial Raids - Reversed Black Trinity
As far as i can tell, anyways. |
MillionDead
08.18.20 | I would've suggested Revenge. But some of their lyrics are slightly red flaggy, even though they barely write lyrics. Nothing very direct at all.
Infernal Coil [2] |
Deathconscious
08.18.20 | I was guessing the guy from Revenge wasnt fashy because he worked with Blasphemy (one of the members is black), but that doesnt necessarily mean anything. |
MillionDead
08.18.20 | It's wild to think about. I'm sure that black guitarist in Blasphemy has seen both casual and direct racism like crazy in that scene. Ultimately, I'm not sure one way or the other on Revenge. But they seem pretty neutral on the surface. The main theme in the lyrics is definitely misanthropy over anything else. |
Deathconscious
08.18.20 | My mistake, its actually the other guy from Conqueror who is in Blasphemy, not the frontman from Revenge. |
MillionDead
08.18.20 | Yeah, so it's kind of up in the air. |

MillionDead
08.18.20 | lmao Just skimmed it. There it went. Definitely NOT Revenge. |
MillionDead
08.18.20 | I forgot, Bestial Warlust seem non-problematic from my exposure to them. Sick first album. Wish they had thicker, harsher production though. |

As far as I know, they are not racist assholes. |

08.18.20 | @Keyblade: It always kills me how fake intellectuals say the dumbest shit in the most self serious and unironic way. Like Ben Shapiro. Or Varg Vikernes. Or black metal fans. They find the most obtuse way to say the simplest shit in that interview, also. lol It's ridiculous. "Isn’t black metal a kind of music, meant only for the White Men?" Like, why is that capitalized? Haha |
Keyblade
08.18.20 | I liked this part lol
"Grindcore? Interesting. I have a lot of influences, and I have never listened to grindcore. The closest thing to ‘grindcore’ I listen to would be old CARCASS" |
Keyblade
08.18.20 | I think they just like to hear themselves talk. they really think they're Aristotle or some shit |

A normal ass dude. Does he REALLY think that tech school is gonna get him off the planet? Make him an astronaut?? PFFT. |
Zorg
08.18.20 | Yeah, I don't think there's any pozzed war metal. |

08.19.20 | also "i prefer to call them 'primitive grindcore'"
wtf does that mean thats like saying "wet water" |

08.19.20 | What about Heaven Shall Burn? Are they even considered war-metal? Probs not, but I thought maybe you'd like them? |

Also, "I currently study electronics and telecommunications at a technical school. I believe that education in technical fields is the only way off this destroyed and hopeless planet."
LMFAO! It always amuses me when people think terraforming another planet is going to be easier than just not fucking up this one. |
Gameofmetal
08.20.20 | It's a really niche form of black/death metal. Usually extremely raw production, almost constant grindcore esque speeds, often uses really edgy themes like nuclear war. I usually split that region up into the Blasphemy strain (satanic themes, more thrashy than death metal) and the Conqueror lineage (warfare themes, more death metal). |
JeremiahBullfrog
08.20.20 | i dunno man evil ideas are pretty at home in black metal, hell i listen to gorgoroth but im not a satanist, i listen to Drudkh but im not a nazi |
Deathconscious
08.20.20 | Stuff like Blasphemy, Bestial Warlust, Archgoat, Conqueror...listen to those if you want an idea. |
JeremiahBullfrog
08.20.20 | i dunno man evil ideas are pretty at home in black metal, hell i listen to gorgoroth but im not a satanist, i listen to Drudkh but im not a nazi |
Gameofmetal
08.20.20 | sure but if someone doesn't want to listen to it then they don't have to. plus there ain't too many satanists committing hate crimes in the name of satanism around the world. |
JeremiahBullfrog
08.20.20 | i know i know im just saying, of all genres to be pc about, Black Metal isnt the one |
Gameofmetal
08.20.20 | "politically correct" is a meaningless phrase. Black metal isn't some magical genre where nothing has consequence. The reason nazi stuff is treated differently from other edgy metal themes like murder or satanism is because fascism is an ideologically based threat to a lot of people whereas satanists generally don't go around committing hate crimes and murder is extremely broadly motivated. |
Ignimbrite
08.20.20 | couldn't have said it better myself, my dude |

08.20.20 | I dont really care when it comes to black metal because its evil sounding shit, so if there are some reprehensible ideologies behind it im not all that surprised or bothered by it. I just dont give them my money. |
TheSpirit

MillionDead
08.20.20 | I know cool merch probably sways some metalheads away from that line of thought. |
Keyblade
08.20.20 | u could always bootleg it I guess, tho idk why u would even wanna rep a band like that in the first place lol |
Mythodea
08.20.20 | since I've alreadyestablished that I'm ignorant on War Metal, I want to ask an honest question. Is War Metal a genre pro war, or can it be that they speak about the horrible consequences of Death? Are they militant or alert, is all I'm asking. |
Keyblade
08.20.20 | not sure where the name came from tbh but it doesn't always have to do with war. Blasphemy for example just have satanic themes from what I remember. not sure if Beherit are considered war metal but they're the same. it really just describes a certain grindy sort of bm sound |
MillionDead
08.20.20 | Well it's all about the sound, Myth. Basically it's a hyper brutal blend of black metal, death metal, and a tasteful helping of grindcore. Very heavy stuff. All loud, all the time. Usually really fast. And NO dynamics. Lyrics tend to just be about hatred and death and can be war related, but they don't define the genre in meaningful ways.
@Key: I mean, fuck everybody in Mayhem but I just got a bootleg Dawn of the Black Hearts shirt with Dead's suicide photo on the front. |
Gameofmetal
08.20.20 | ye the real OG shit was often just satanic themes but later on it got defined by a lot of nuclear holocaust and gas mask aesthetics. Definitely haven't noticed any anti-war war metal bands, which would be interesting. War metal is not the thoughtful kind of genre, it's usually just a brutal kill everything nuke the world type attitude. Even the hardcore leftie antifascist bands like Sankara and Baneblade usually just flip the script and do hyperbolic violent themes directed at fascists or capitalism. |
Gameofmetal
08.20.20 | "not sure where the name came from tbh"
Conqueror I think. They were the first that I know of to implement more death metal level viciousness with a war aesthetic. I know people use them interchangeably but I usually think of the Blasphemy style bands with the thrashier leanings and satanic lyrics as Bestial black metal |
Keyblade
08.20.20 | that's the term that was eluding me, especially with Beherit. I was like I know they were called something else |
MillionDead
08.20.20 | Yeah, I interchange bestial bm and war metal a lot. Love both sounds quite a bit though. |
botb
08.20.20 | Pretty sure pig’s blood is also not fash |
MillionDead
08.21.20 | Death Worship don't seem fashy. They just sing about Satan's army rising and killing the whole human race, I think. |
Gameofmetal
08.21.20 | Death Worship is comprised of J. Read (Conqueror, Revenge) and Ryan Forster (Blasphemy). As noted above, Read has said some pretty racist shit. I like their stuff though fyi.
One thing that I don't think has been noted is that a lot of why war metal is regarded as sketchy or fascist is because Antichrist Kramer, who is a straight up fascist, has his hands in loads of bands in the style. |
Deathconscious
08.21.20 | The link i had was to an old Vermin (Chris Ross, guitarist of Revenge) interview, not J Read. But he works with the guy, so idk. |
Gameofmetal
08.21.20 | Ah ok, noted. |
