08.10.20 | YOJIMBO is a samurai-based Akira Kurosawa film, the story of which Leone carbon copied to an old Western milieu for FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, to the point Kurosawa pursued legal action against him. It was a pretty blatant rip-off, and many of the shots and narrative elements are identical, only transcribed to a new environment. Still, Leone at that time had enough of his own flourishes to separate his film's compositional elements (e.g. the "hipfire" cam) from Kurosawa's, so if you're not a stickler on originality, it mainly boils down to whether you prefer sweaty outlaws or sweaty samurai. | JeremiahBullfrog
