07.18.20 | "I'm looking for music that sounds like a tribal ritual or a war march"
Judging by what OP said there, and the fact that he linked Killing Joke (who are certainly not tribal music in the slightest), I assumed High on Fire's percussion would be what he's looking for to some extent. And Bolt Thrower's music is created primarily to sound like a 'war march'. Many of HoF's songs, especially "Headhunter", rely on repetition and heavy tom use in lieu of riding/crashing on cymbals like traditional western rock. OP also said he was looking for repetition in his percussion, so that helps too. But no, High on Fire nor Bolt Thrower are 'tribal', but he wasn't necessarily asking for tribal music - just music that features tribal, or tribal influenced, drums. Des Kensel and Jeff Matz are heavily influenced by World Music, and I can assume Pike is as well. |

07.18.20 | Ive just never thought of the word "tribal" when listening to those bands, but aight. Both bands rule anyways, so good recs regardless. |
NeroCorleone
07.18.20 | Killing Joke's drumming especially on that album are full of tribal repetitive grooves. The bands/albums I posted are the only ones with a somewhat tribal style that I listen to, I dont necessarily want stuff that sounds like them. Just using them as a point of reference, although Crash Worship are very close to what I want.
Also like I said I want the drumming to be the main focus, and it's certainly not with most of those recs. |
