As The Year Comes To A Close
With December fast approaching, the year 2008 is almost over.
Off the top of my head, I
cannot think of any albums that I am looking forward to to be
released by the end of the
year. Thank you, sputnik, for introducing me to such much
music in my 20+ months on the
site. With your help, I have heard over 60 albums released in
2008. These are my top 20 for
the year. I think my top 6 have been decided, but 7-11 are
incredibly tight, and if I begin to
like 12 as much as I did at first throw that in to the top 10 as
well possibly. |
| 1 | | Equilibrium Sagas
Easily could have been guessed. |
| 2 | | Demians Building An Empire
Album never ceases to amaze me. Nearly as good as 1 imo, there's just a few parts that have been
stretched out a bit too long imo. |
| 3 | | Kalisia Cybion
Imo, this is comparable with Crimson I and II...its that good. |
| 4 | | Burst Lazarus Bird
So yeah Burst improved a lot this one, and Origo was already a fantastic album. The first 1:45 of
Nineteenhundred is genius. |
| 5 | | Transcending Bizarre? The Serpent's Manifolds
Very unique album, can't get enough of it. The keys truly make this album as amazing as it is. |
| 6 | | Intronaut Prehistoricisms
Perhaps a bit long, but this a great album to just sit back and listen to, specifically The Reptilian Brain. |
| 7 | | Scar Symmetry Holographic Universe
The title track still remains as probably my favorite song all year. |
| 8 | | The Faceless Planetary Duality
So much better than I anticipated. I did not expect them to top Akeldama, but this pretty much blows it
out of the water. Album art is badass as well. |
| 9 | | In Mourning Shrouded Divine
Blows Watershed out of the fucking water. |
| 10 | | Protest the Hero Fortress
OUR GODDESS GAVE BIRTH TO YOUR GOD |
| 11 | | Mirrorthrone Gangrene
Has worn off of me a bit. Should give this a few more listens, could be higher up in the list. |
| 12 | | Oceans of Sadness The Arrogance of Ignorance
I kinda overplayed this when I first got it, which is probably why it wore off me a bit, but its still really
freaking good. |
| 13 | | Have a Nice Life Deathconsciousness
A bit long perhaps, but has some of the most beautiful music i've heard ever. |
| 14 | | Iskald Revelations of Reckoning Day
Read my review, this album slays. |
| 15 | | Bloodbath The Fathomless Mastery
Was not terribly fond of this at first, but it has grown on me with every listen since then. |
| 16 | | Arghoslent Hornets of the Pogrom
This may go up a bit actually, I always go back and forth between liking this or Fathomless Mastery better. |
| 17 | | Textures Silhouettes
Has some of the best songs I've heard all year (Awake and To Erase a Lifetime specifically) but there's
one
or two songs that don't amount to the rest of the album, which is why it isn't a little bit higher. |
| 18 | | Enslaved Vertebrae
Also may go up a little bit. Probably the best Enslaved album. |
| 19 | | Mesa Verde The Old Road
I've listened to this a bunch of time recently, it's really good. |
| 20 | | Gates of Winter Lux Aeterna
Fucking epic. |
