06.22.20 | @ReturnToRock: it's a toss up for me.
@tectactoe: Nah. That record really doesn't reach the heights of A! DB! A! or SRFNZK. |

@anarchistfish: again, fair. It's a toss up. Hastings is probably my favourite GY!BE song, but in terms of overall scale Skinny Fists is incomparable. |
AngryJohnny
06.22.20 | slow riot is second behind skinny fists for me these days. Probably my favourite EP of all time |
MementoMori
06.22.20 | @AngrJohnny Definitely my favourite one as well, but it doesn't beat Skinny Fists. |
Pangea
06.22.20 | i would change the order (2 and 4 are my faves) but i will agree that these 5 are the best gybe |

I haven't really looked at my ratings in a few years. Skinny Fists and Riot are close. I was more surprised to see Ascend over Riot. |
MementoMori
06.22.20 | @Maniac: I suppose it's a scale thing. Riots two tracks are quality, and "BBF3" is probably the best track from both records. Nevertheless, 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! has quality and listening to that record again and again, I realised it's another post-rock masterclass. It's a toss up in the end though. |

06.22.20 | Although East Hastings is my favourite GY!BE track, I don't think the other tracks on that record match its quality. Skinny Fists is just consistently brilliant. |
Gyromania
06.22.20 | 4 is 1, 1 has some good moments but holy shit is it ever boring a lot of the tiime, 2 is 2, the rest aren't really worth hearing |
MementoMori
06.22.20 | @Gyromania: Did you really just pull the 'record(s) too long, me no likey!' card on a renowned post-rock band? Cut that infantile nonsense. Maybe this genre isn't for you my dude. |
Gyromania
06.22.20 | I'm willing to bet I've heard more post rock albums than you and some of my favourite albums are stupidly long, I just never got the skinny fists hype as much as others. It's a good album that's extremely overrated. And I mean post-rock is pretty weak on the whole as a genre outside of a dozen or so stellar albums |

06.22.20 | @Gyromania: I highly doubt it given your pie chart and the discrepancy in total ratings. Unless about 30% of your ratings are post-rock records, I think I have an edge here. It seems as if your critique boils down to my above characterisation. It may be overrated, but it's still a masterpiece and probably the best post-rock record ever made alongside their debut.
Like all genres post-rock is oversaturated, yet the fundamental aesthetic of the genre is far more appealing than most rock genres (with the exception of progressive rock). I'd say it is a far stronger genre than most subgenres of rock. And yes, its greatest records far outweigh most great rock records. |

06.22.20 | lol "it may be overrated but it's the best album in the genre" |
MementoMori
06.22.20 | @Gyromania: that sentence isn't as paradoxical as you might think. Blackwater Park is probably overrated, and it's still one of the greatest progressive metal records of all time. To Pimp a Butterfly is overrated, but it's one the past decade's greatest albums. You see, amazing records generate an incredible amount of buzz, people obsess over them, their averages shoot up, and people start hailing them as 'some of the best records of all time'. It's par for the course. So in a way, I can accept that Skinny Fists is overrated, even if I think it's a materpiece.
Generally, I interpret 'overrated', especially in the way you're employing it as: a great record that is almost universally lauded as beyond however great it may be. It's a pretty meaningless term and it doesn't necessarily tell us anything about the quality of the record. Honestly, it might not be one of the 'top 10 best records of all time', although I'm sure, some would argue it is. That doesn't mean it's not a masterpiece to me, it's just not the materpiece to end all masterpieces. |
