| Who, Out Of These Bands, Is The Most Technical Proficient?
yes, it's another tech list. but this one is just for fun. so to any readers/posters, which of these bands has the most complex riffs, time signatures, great instrument use, etc. try and name the top three if possible.
this list has a more mature group of bands, depending on how this list goes, i'll post another one with younger bands. | | 1 | Between the Buried and Me | | 2 | Dream Theater | | 3 | Mastodon | | 4 | Nevermore | | 5 | Opeth | | 6 | Rush | | 7 | Tool | |

11.13.08 | Opeth for chordal modulations and the usage of the seventh and sus. chords. The melodic elements from Akerfeldt are both complex, and not overly ridiculous to be indecipherable. He does however In my opinion overuse the swinging distorted chords, that often get monotonous. While it's part of the sound, it's also not necessarily something to dwell on for many minutes at a time.
Tool are simplistically complex (oxymoron I known). Melodically their music is quite simple, but effective. Rhythmically its complex, and complementing to Adam Jones' style, which too is quite rhythmic. | Fugue
11.13.08 | Personally I would say Dream Theater, as they are all just insanely good at their instruments, saying that I haven't heard anything by 1 or 4 so... | DethThrasher
11.13.08 | Tool | fireaboveicebelow
11.13.08 | none of them really | Distance
11.13.08 | All>dream theater | halloway
11.13.08 | i don't know. they all are. i've really rediscovered a love of dailor's drumming style recently though.
furthermore: WHERE'S PSYOPUS ON THIS LIST?! | Nagrarok
11.13.08 | On musical technicality, Dream Theater > all. However, they do fail at songwriting. | Masochist
11.13.08 | Every bit of mutatedfreek's answer applies to me, as well. | Spamue1G
11.13.08 | Dream Theater are the most TECHNICALLY skilled. Tool have the advantage in songwriting, but this is probably my top 3 in terms of technicality:
1. Dream Theater (all band members)
2. Nevermore (guitarist only)
3. Opeth (Drums in particular) | the_patient
11.13.08 | Between the Buried and Me
Dream Theater (they suck at songwriting though)
Opeth | botb
11.13.08 | Dream Theater | bodiesinflight57
05.06.09 | You'd have to be a massive fanboy of either of the other bands not to say Dream Theater
You may hate them but they're all ridiculously proficient at their respective instruments
BTBAM, Opeth and Rush all come close tho
Tbh I dunno what Tool are doin on this because Adam Jones, despite havin a style that I and many others love is not actually that good technically | bodiesinflight57
05.06.09 | ...all tho the rest are awesome...just feel Jones lets them down a bit on the tech front | TheGreatD17
05.06.09 | Dream Theater could pretty much outplay any rock band ever from a technical standpoint, Rush would probably be my #2 from this list. Meshuggah is missing though. | Cuban Pete
05.06.09 | dillinger escape plan. | nick0307
06.09.09 | mastodon, tool and opeth are the most tastefully technical/complex i think, but technically in terms of ridiculously difficult and complex, dream theater, necrophagist and meshuggah are pretty far up there | pissbore
03.07.13 | rush | Uranium
03.07.13 | 'your a fucking idiot' | Uranium
03.07.13 | i just like to call you out | Insurrection
03.07.13 | Between the Buried and Me with DT in a close second | demigod!
03.07.13 | yeah probably BTBAM, even if you hate their music you can't deny their talent | Uranium
03.07.13 | true that demi |
