Heavy Harmony

Off to Sri Lanka tomorrow. I've been really digging a good vocal harmony lately, especially when it's multiple vocalists over a mad riff. Cheers, friends for life.
1Alice In Chains
MTV Unplugged

Layne and Jerry had some of the most painful vocal harmonies ever written. See: Down In A Hole
2System of a Down
Mezmerize

Not my favourite SoaD album, and can't stand Daron as a solo vocalist, but he and Serj's harmonies really peaked around this era. See: Revenga
3Protest the Hero
Kezia

Hard to understate how mind blowing Kezia was when it came out, the gorgeous harmonies interspersed throughout the mathy riffing really delved into a dimension that hadn't yet been plundered in the mid 00s. See: Blindfolds Aside
4King's X
Dogman

King's X's heavy emphasis on vocal harmonies belies their origin as worship musicians but anchors their songs in an utterly unique place in heavy rock history. See: Shoes
5Toto
Toto IV

Fuck you, Toto are mad and there's nothing more fun than hearing career musicians plow through pop fodder with a mixture of ease and barely concealed coke-binge glee. See: Afraid of Love
6TesseracT
Altered State

TesseracT are nerds and are on my wedgie list but fuck I'm not sure their yelps of pain will ever sound as good as these harmonies, even to my ears.
7Deep Purple
Burn

Mk III or fight me. See: Might Just Have To Take Your Life
