Top 10 2019

I really didn't listen to a lot of 2019 records but I liked these ones. happy holidays everyone.
1Purple Mountains
Purple Mountains

It's a little harder for me to listen to this album now...I was so happy David Berman was back making music, and fantastic music to boot (having Woods as his backing band was just a bonus). I had recently moved abroad, not knowing anybody, and this album was really a source of comfort. ...and then I got the news and and it's like the comfort just went away. I wasn't surprised, I know Berman was struggling immensely. I was just crestfallen. I hope he's at peace now.
2Frog
Count Bateman

Frog strips down their sound and is it ever warm....a delightful record.
3Andrew Bird
My Finest Work Yet

maybe the kind of record I would throw on while hosting a nice dinner party with sophisticated friends....if I held dinners parties and had sophisticated friends (but really a very well-rounded effort with a possibly true title which says a lot)
4PUP
Morbid Stuff

"I'm weighed down in this city, and I've been feeling restless"

I knew since I first these guys open for the Menzingers in '14 they were on to great things.
5Wilco
Ode to Joy

"I'm worried about the way we're all living, and this is my love song"

What a lovely, understated album. Wilco in top form. First listen or two it didn't seem like much was going on but it crept up on me and had me coming back.
6The Menzingers
Hello Exile

"I was getting fucked up with a high school friend, wonderin' where all the good times went"

Sure I could question about some production choices or the general mid-tempo pace but the fact is The Menzingers are still making fantastic songs. My most listened to band of the 2010s.
7Forests
Spending Eternity In A Japanese Convenience Store

Good pop punk jams from Singapore
8New Swears
Night Mirror

fun band
9The Tallest Man on Earth
I Love You. It's a Fever Dream.

Not on par with the first three but there's some really nice songs here. I'll always have a soft spot for this man as The Wild Hunt was such a huge record for me.
10(Sandy) Alex G
House Of Sugar

Dude consistently turns out good tunes
