tectactoe 10.17.19	I know in the case of the formal, the vocals were a big problem for me. Can't remember exactly why I disliked the In Mourning album so much, I'd have to listen to it again.

tectactoe 10.17.19	Doof, not sure how keen you are on â€˜Sunbatherâ€™, but Aevum reminds me of a darker, slightly less melodic (i.e., more â€œblackâ€, more black of a better word) version of that. Highly recommended. Listened to it five or six times the first week it came out, which is rare for me to do with any metal album at all.
OldCrime 10.17.19	Nice. Been enjoying 10 a lot. Haven't been able to get into 20 or 17 yet.. need to check 1. Hope you enjoy Inter Arma when you get to it! Maybe try The Offering.. But looking at your hated list you may not like the vocals..
tectactoe 10.17.19	Thanks for the suggestion - I'm willing to give anything a try once! And yes, the Inter Arma has been in my queue for a while now, I plan to get to it before the week is over! And definitely checkout Aevum when you get a chance, I absolutely love it, I'm surprised it hasn't gained more traction (only like 11 or 12 ratings on the site for it right now).

tectactoe 10.17.19	Torche is on my list to revisit with a 2.5, I loved the first four songs but was completely bored by the end. Hopefully I have a better reaction to the back half next time I spin it (before the yearâ€™s end).

tectactoe 10.18.19	Thanks Demon. Have the Tomb Mold & WRVTH both at 2.5 - have listened to WRVTH twice and no different feelings, I'm just mostly ambivalent to it. I owe the Tomb Mold another listen, though (always try to give my 2.5 and 3.0 ratings at least two spins). I'll probably spin the Saor today, and have added the CoS and DoG albums to the queue :-)

tectactoe 10.21.19	Liked the Saor album [3.0] though not quite enough to crack this list. First track was killer, but I found the pagan/folk influences a little enervating by the end, and the subdued final track just felt out of place on a "metal" album, though I understand its purpose as an attempt to span genres. Good album overall, though, glad I listened to it.
Demon of the Fall 10.21.19	Loved the Saor album initially, those melodies just spoke to me. It did wear off slightly after repeated listening though, so very much something I instinctively enjoyed that maybe wouldn't hold up if overplayed. Really interested to hear the rest of his discog though.

Also gave "Planetary Clairvoyance" a repsin after giving it a 2.5 shortly after its release. Not sure what happened, but something clicked this time and I loved it.
Egarran 11.15.19	That Esoteric is too funeral for me. I want my doom to be uplifting and joyous, like My Dying Bride or Solitude Aeturnus.
tectactoe 11.15.19	Understandable. Managed to put me in a decent trance, though, and stomped by guts out at several other junctures, so it gets a nod from me (for now). I admit I was pretty taken aback by that run time before I listened, though.

Egarran 11.22.19	How do you not understand hate towards Liturgy? It's custom made for alienating at least 50% of bm fans.
tectactoe 11.22.19	I mean, it's to the point (at least _that_ album) where it's hardly even "black metal," regardless of what they've appraised themselves as. It's like, I dunno, maybe avant-garde metal or some off-shoot of post-metal? Black metal influenced, sure, but to qualify it as such doesn't seem fitting. And so why evaluate it as a "black metal album" when it's really not? But I was more referring to the whole manifesto thing, which I'd only learned about a few weeks ago, and it seems a lot of the hate stems directly from that (I could be wrong, though). My point was that I am not hip to any of the non-musical drama surrounding the band, but I'm getting the sense that a lot of it exists.
