11.07.22 | Everything I love gets a 5
Everything else gets what feels right, but sometimes I can tell I’ll need to listen more and over an extended period of time
It’d be easier to just 5 and 1, but not much is that bad |

11.07.22 | Why I Rate: A Word About Thee Benefits of a Positive Rating Model
p.s. i have a response to one of my most-heard, fallacious critiques that i "ruin the charts": fairly or not, i have not had any rating-weight in half a decade on this site because of my decision to rate like this. literally nothing i rate changes thee slightest fraction of an album's status in terms of global-rym rating! but that does help me put my money where my mouth is - thee charts are worthless to me so it's fine that i am excluded - and instead focus on individual users' ratings!)
"- Using this system currently will lead to your account being deweighted
- RYM staff is against using this type of system and considers it harmful to the site
- RYM will eventually restrict the usage of such a system, which will require action by the user
So that anyone who chooses to do so after reading your list at least understands the consequences." - ~sharifi |

11.07.22 | Why rate?
Trying to catalogue my musical loves, I rate 'n' revise often. Personal user charts being thee best way to find real recommendations, since thee charts always skew way towards thee popular, I seek out users with useful ratings to plunder all thee time. Maybe I can provide thee same by having a positive rating system.
3 things I don't subscribe to:
1) "Shades of hate" ratings. Thee negativity of many rating systems (where 3 stars is "average") allows several stages of hate ("dislike", "really dislike", "TERRIBLE", "WORLD ENDINGLY BAD!!!!!!") that are ultimately useless. No one needs recommendations for terrible rekkerds, so I choose to slap them all together 'n' forget. Every half-star must be earned, not deducted. In this way, I can provide a more positive vibe toward thee music I love 'n' reward/draw attention to thee things that actually affect my life.
2) Too many highest-tiered ratings. If I can't tell what's life-alteringly good from yr 5 star albums, then I am surely not clicking on yr 4's. You don't owe it to any album, and if you switch to a Positive Rating Model where every star is earned, then you could differentiate much more clearly.
3) A hip refusal to use all thee star slots. Especially when these rating systems are top-heavy, they become useless. If you have thee whole open field to play in, then why just run to certain areas? When each level means too much (except thee lower levels, where who cares if mediocre, bad 'n' OK are mixed), yr ratings are not working to help out people for musical recommendations.
3 things I do subscribe to:
1) Positive reviews for albums that may not earn stars. In thee immediacy of thee Internet 'n' limited-timed life, thee rating stays king, but if there is time to write a review to elucidate thee benefits of thee album, even one that does not warrant returning to, I'm for it. Then those seeking out albums can find helpful ideas to guide listening or purchasing even if thee rating is poor.
2) Keeping yr 4+ stars sacred. Some music is special - give it uncluttered room to breathe! I want to delineate what I love, not what I hate.
3) Rating no- or lo-impact albums .5 stars. I'm not dissing; I just want to spend my time with something else.
Thee Ratings:
Since I use a Positive Rating Model, every rating includes all thee previous elements from thee lower ratings 'n' builds. For example, a 2 star rating implies everything that a 1.5 star, 1.0 star, 'n' .5 star rating does.
