| YMO RANKED
Technodon doesn't count because who it was recorded by? Not YMO | | 7 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra X∞ Multiplies
This one is also half skits, but because of the shorter nature of the record it actually works (Also not gonna lie, it helps that i can understand half of them)
7/10 | | 6 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra Service
Actually features a number of top-notch earworms (See Through, You've Got To Help Yourself), but is hampered by half of the record being skits.
7/10 | | 5 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra Naughty Boys
A really straightforward, accessible synthpop release. Highlights include Focus, Kai Koh, Lotus Love.
8/10 | | 4 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra Technodelic
Probably the most impressive, experimentally speaking.
8/10 | | 3 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra Yellow Magic Orchestra
Stellar replay value on a lot of tracks - Firecracker, Tong Poo, Mad Pierrot to name a few. A satire of the patronizing 'exotica' genre, but an earnest attempt at making it as groovy as possible. They succeed.
8/10 | | 2 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra Solid State Survivor
Invented video game music. Daft Punk wishes they could've wrote Behind The Mask
9/10 | | 1 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra BGM
Entertaining from start to finish, BGM sees YMO delve further into synthpop territory. And while they are no longer 'ahead of their time', they're still at the front of the pack. For me, the highlight is 'Cue', a simple, beautiful synthpop masterpiece.
