Top 12 Counterparts songs
This band has been around for 12 years, here are my 12 favourite songs by them, I'm tired, whatever. |
| 1 | | Counterparts Tragedy Will Find Us
Tragedy.
While the lyrical content always moves me to tears ("Make my skin your sanctuary"), it might be the introspective second half that makes this into my favourite Counterparts song. The way the guitars and drums play off each other with Brendan's contemplative lyricism lingering is simply perfect. |
| 2 | | Counterparts The Difference Between Hell and Home
Debris.
This song has helped me through a lot, even if it made the sadness experienced at those times even worse. "I was never good enough for anyone / Why did I think that this time it'd be different?". The ending is fantastic, as mental exhaustion seems to kick in with the final punch of the last lyrics. |
| 3 | | Counterparts Tragedy Will Find Us
Withdrawal.
While Counterparts has always been incredible at inserting crushing breakdowns at just the right times, it's the slightly less instantly-heavy moments that make 'Withdrawal' such a great song. The dynamic guitarwork giving the vocals the exact sense of entrapment described by the lyrical content works insanely well. |
| 4 | | Counterparts You're Not You Anymore
Fragile Limbs.
Brendan's vocals on 'Fragile Limbs' somehow sound even more desperate than usually. In some ways, the song structurally feels more conventional, but the contrast between the 'lighter' guitars during the chorus and pained vocals makes this a unique cut. |
| 5 | | Counterparts Prophets
Sturdy Wings.
Even though I prefer the 'new' Counterparts, 'Sturdy Wings' is an incredible song that shows best what was to come from the band. From a breakdown-heavy mid section to melodic guitars introducing a surprising amount of clean vocals, the track incorporates the intricacies that make Counterparts into what they are.. in a slightly less, yet still thoroughly enjoyable, intricate manner. |
| 6 | | Counterparts You're Not You Anymore
Arms Like Teeth. |
| 7 | | Counterparts Tragedy Will Find Us
Solace. |
| 8 | | Counterparts The Difference Between Hell and Home
Compass. |
| 9 | | Counterparts Tragedy Will Find Us
Stillborn. |
| 10 | | Counterparts The Current Will Carry Us
The Disconnect. |
| 11 | | Counterparts You're Not You Anymore
