04.26.19 | i love this idea, and i have exactly zero recs |
Oneironaut
04.26.19 | @GeorgeWBush - maybe I have to create it haha |
zaruyache
04.26.19 | ...trip hop? Or maybe the 90s trip hop/post-rock stuff. |
Keyblade
04.26.19 | Nujabes maybe
his song Spiritual State is just a1 |
Oneironaut
04.26.19 | Yea, it might be trip hop, but I'm really into guitar driven instrumental shit. Either way I'll look around some trip hop stuff and see if this scratches the itch
@Keyblade - I do love me some nujabes, but I'm looking for guitar based, sweeping songs but the backbone of the post rock has slick hip hop drumming |
Oneironaut
04.26.19 | So I'm listening to Arms and Sleepers, and yea - I do really like trip hop, and am enjoying this...but it's still not exactly what I'm going for (the beats are more straightforward than meandering) |
dustandnations
04.26.19 | Some Tycho? Only thing that comes to mind, and it’s fairly far off. I would love to hear the sound you’re describing if anyone can think of an example. |
LunaticSoul
04.26.19 | Strawberry Girls - more on the 'energetic' side of instrumental rock, but they mix and flow R&B in their songs pretty well. Not hip-hop in specific, but could be up your alley
Also Mr Jukes (more of a 'funky' affair here) but it mixes all the above
I'd say though trip hop sounds more like the thing you're looking for. |
Oneironaut
04.26.19 | @dustandnations - if I ever hear what I'm looking for, I'll send it your way
@LunaticSoul - Strawberry Girls are great, and I think the only element missing would be the sweeping, atmospheric build up. Great shout though. It's been raining all day so it's been trip hop nonstop. Mr. Jukes ive listened to a bit of - it's one of the guys from Bombay Bicycle Club, right? |
geezers1989
04.26.19 | u might like the Depreciation Guild? |
GhandhiLion
04.26.19 | OP you want to look to the 90s UK scene where bands were experimenting with samplers pre trip-hop. See Moonshake, Laika, Pram, Fridge. Truth is post-rock actually grew out of hip hop as much as it did krautrock and Talk Talk. |
DoofDoof
04.26.19 | Maybe try The Aloof 'Sinking' if you want expansive trip hop - not a million miles away from Mezzanine.
Instrumental hip hop/trip hop in general is great - the Mo Wax stuff like the Headz compilations is atmospheric.
Hip hop with guitars and no vox - not too much comes to mind. Do Dalek ever use guitars, I forget? |
Oneironaut
04.27.19 | @geezers - listening to em right now, never heard of them before. Thanks for the rec!
@GhandhiLion - (great username) sweet, never looked into that scene, so will do some exploring. appreciate it
@DoofDoof - will tuck into some of this expansive trip hop you speak of! I've got my Saturday stuck in a hotel room working on a presentation in a foreign country, so I've got time to check all this out. |
Prancer
04.27.19 | definitely check out Controlling Crowds by Archive |
Oneironaut
04.27.19 | @Prancer - wow, this is very cool. digging heavy, almost getting some Kid A vibes |
