The State of Prog '19

One of the things I’ve really noticed this year (or maybe I’ve just been looking for it more) has been how divisive prog metal and rock is as a genre. There are some people that really like it to be a throwback to when it was in its heyday (70's) while others seem to think it should be constantly pushing forwards. There are some people that want it to be serious while others don’t mind a little cheese. Created this thread as a discussion of where you stand, how you define it, and what you listen to. List is prog that I’ve checked this year/ am looking forward to. Recs highly encouraged.
The Atlantic

Thought it was ok, a little predictable at times. Didn't really care for the power metal aspects of it.

Weird album. Probably should give it another listen before I dismiss it, but nothing really stuck the first time.
3Moon Tooth

Really enjoyed this one. Great energy and amazing instrumentals.
Periphery IV: Hail Stan

Thought this album was well done. Still trying to decide where it fits overall in their discography but I'm of the camp that they haven't released a bad album yet.
5Devin Townsend

This one was odd for me because I loved "Genesis" but there were other parts where the cheese was too much for me (which is bizarre considering how much I love Haken).
The Chosen One

Despite the lackluster single I'm looking forward to this. "A Means to No End" was excellent and "Are You Kidding Me? No" was a joyride. Their drummer is probably my favorite right now.
7Thank You Scientist

Probably one of the best bands in the game right now. The new single was incredible and I can't wait to catch them again live. "Stranger Heads Prevail" is one of the best albums of all time. Highly anticipating this album.
8Dream Theater
Distance Over Time

Didn't listen to "The Astonishing" but I actually kind of liked this one. I don't know if this band is really "proggy" anymore but it was a nice trip back to high school when I first discovered them.
