04.23.16 Black pearls (mostly bm)

19 for 2019

some cool stuff from this year. nothing more, nothing less. too much metal as usual.
1Ultra Silvam
The Spearwound Salvation

The most "fun" bm album of this year imo.
2Funereal Presence

The best bm album.Labyrinthine and refreshingly archaic
Festering in Telepathic Communion

raw and violent
Hvísl Stjarnanna

icelandic bm is still cool
Canticles of the Sepulchral Deity

ear piercing, chaotic, melodic, I love it.

Other bm: Doombringer, Skrawl, Blue Hummingbird on the Left, Heinous, Devil Master
6Mega Colossus

nerdy lyrics, playful guitar playing. it's just so much fun. NAVIIIIIIGAAAAAAATOOOOOOOOOOOOOR
Neg: Only an EP
7Traveler (CAN)

good trad. heavy metal. nothing original but top notch execution.
8Sanhedrin (USA-NY)
The Poisoner

well rounded Hard Rock/ Heavy metal. (a rather mature album for the genre)
9Twisted Tower Dire
Wars in the Unknown

US-Power metal. happy to see that they are still around. cheesy (of course) but fun.
10Magic Circle
Departed Souls

trad. doom with a lot of of old (70s) rock in it. Brendan Radigan has the perfect voice for the genre.
Saw him last year with Pagan Altar, was totally blown away.
Lethal Desire

raw speed/thrash metal. every song is well under 4 minutes. the 80's never ended.

(funeral)death/doom. one of the best bands in the genre. L'être et la Nausée was a return to form for them and this is just as good.

Didn't listen to much dm this year. Vircolac has the lead so far.
Other good shit: Pissgrave, Prostitute Disfugurement, Disgruntled Anthropophagi, Rendered Helpless, Venom Prison.
14Chaucerian Myth
Chaucerian Legends: The Epic of Beileag, Part III

Chaucerian Legends: The Epic of Beileag, Part I-III. Love his output. Often a rather challenging listening experience but his willingness to experiment is always welcome in this narrow genre.
Other cool Ds: Onion Knight, Tyrant Myst, Utred, Arthuros, Gargoylium
15Boy Harsher

not as good as I hoped, but still pretty cool.
Love Is

2nd best album of the year so far, I'd say. Need some more time with this to fully evaluate it, but so far it keeps growing and growing.
17Weyes Blood
Titanic Rising

currently In third place. the praise it gets is deserved (even if it is from lucid (; ...) . let's see if it stands the test of time.
18Low Life
Downer Edn

neat post-punk ( I hate this term by now). dig the vibe of it.
Why Aren't You Laughing?

so far my aoty. I adored the Optimist and I think this tops it.
Genre: Post-Whatever
