Atari 02.26.19	the best advice I can give is to find things that help reduce your anxiety naturally. certain medication (specifically benzos) should only be taken as a last resort. was on them for several months in 2017 when my anxiety got really bad and in the end they only made the situation worse. just my 2 cents/hang in there!!

alamo 02.26.19	i think anxiety is something natural, a defense mechanism everybody has... the thing is for some people it's triggered at unopportune times in bigger levels for whatever reason. personally i've dealt with social anxiety since i was very little, it sucks ass... had some trouble on college last year (dropping and failing classes because of that) so i started taking phitoteraphic meds (which are pretty much sedatives) and its been quite helpful with insomnia and on certain situations although i feel somewhat out of energy during the day so its a bit of a two edge thing
claygurnz 02.26.19	I get aniexty over probably the dumbest thing in the world - Women/Sex I'm 27 and never had a girlfriend and only had sex a couple of times so I'm pretty useless at it. Just never been very confident when it comes to that sort of thing. I'd say I'm a pretty good looking dude, and I'm confident in other walks of life, just not with the opposite sex. I'm quite popular, and all my friends are either in long term relationships or out having fun with women (aka banging a lot of them), so I feel really left out when the conversation comes to things like women and sex. I used to wear glasses and have a shitty minimum wage retail job as well, so that didn't help my confidence nor my prospects. However, I think i've identified my problem and I'm taking steps to overcome my aniexty about the issue. I've started wearing contact lenses and I have a new job which pays quite a bit better, although still not amazing. I've been working out since I was about 20, but I've recently been pushing myself harder, and playing football (soccer) twice a week, along with four days of weight training, so that's improving my confidence as well. Furthermore, I was addicted to porn for many years, and it gave me unrealistic expectations about sex and women's bodies. It's like in Knocked Up when Seth Rogen's character says 'I'll just go home and jerk it later' instead of talking to Katherine Heigl's character. I'm happy to say I haven't watched porn for a week as of today, and I'm pretty certain I never will again. I feel so much more productive - my room is cleaner, my dishes are done, I've read a book for the first time in two/three years this week. Finally (almost done guys) I went to my first talking therapy last week, and that's been really great striking up conversations with people who are in a similar boat. I think I'm going to be just fine and so are you my friend.

Getting busy with my band has helped me cope at times but I work a desk job where my mind is usually racing so if something happens that pulls my panic trigger then I go off the rails really quickly. I could probably do without the copious amounts of caffeine I intake on the daily, but then that might make it difficult for me to focus. A real slippery slope. I'm considering a CBT specialist so I can get into a good routine of working myself down, but I'm not sure if I'll end up needing that once I learn to take the advice my friends give for once. @Asdfp277 I've had bouts with depression as well but I would say that that's not my primary issue and anxiety is usually the catalyst. @claygurnz I have a lot of anxiety with women too. Relationships in general when it comes to learning how to trust someone with all of my troubles and knowing their true intentions. Once I open up, I get more and more stressed about the possibility of betrayal. It sounds like you needed an uptick in confidence. Getting out of a sedentary lifestyle, having a job that makes you feel good, doing things that are productive outside of work (exercise, creating something, etc) helps too.

But things picked up for me, I was thankfully able to control my thoughts again after a long few weeks of being tormented by every single thought that attacked me every second of every day. solrage 02.27.19	I did in my teens and early 20s. What got me out of it was a weird mixture of things. Of all things, watching Neon Genesis Evangelion really sparked a period of self-discovery. Studying rationality radically altered my worldview. Learning to play poker successfully for a living gave me confidence. Playing guitar and writing poetry gave me an artistic outlet. Starting to eat right and exercise/work-out also seemed to really help regulate my mood and entire life. Overall being online really helped me realize how many people there are out there like my weirdo self, that I'm not alone. Different people have different causes to their anxiety so there's no one fix-all cure, but I think the above cocktail is what helped me most.

solrage 02.27.19	RE those links, I've actually done a lot of reading on this subject, including actual scientific studies. The consensus seems to be that, while there are some potential negatives to watching porn, the positives generally outweigh them. As I said, if you find yourself watching it for hours everyday and not interacting with others because of it, maybe there's a problem. There are other potential problems, like if you start having violent fantasies, or if you become desensitized to real sex, or if you feel bad/depressed while/after doing it... but those things don't apply to the vast majority of people. If you're normal, porn is fine; and even if you're not, porn is still very likely fine. Don't trust websites that are clearly biased on one side of any issue. Do as much reading in actual scientific journals as you can and reputable pop-science websites when the former aren't available or are too technical. Now you know (and knowing is half the battle).

Eons 03.27.19	I've dealt with some anxiety and depression and such and the bizarre thing is the more I opened up about it, the less stable I felt. I felt vulnerable which I HATED. I know it isn't healthy but I feel much better when I just keep things secret and tell one or two friends.

I get it over girls(25 now, only had sex with the only gf I’ve had, though never had any complaints lol), work, school, the future, the past, being isolated, crowds, being stuck in one place for too long, I get anxiety over my anxiety for Christ’s sake. Long story short, it’s not the end of the world. There could be worst things you have. You’re not crazy. Just keep doing things that genuinely relieve your anxiety in a healthy manner. Chin up and realize you’re not alone. Also, find a woman, man, whatever you’re into, that makes you feel safe. My ex got so threatened by the fact that I went to therapy that it basically ended our relationship. A long time coming, but I told her no, I’m not gonna stop doing something that’s helping me. Not gonna let someone control me, especially the type of person who could actually benefit from it.

The anxiety I suffered, which I’ve nearly eradicated, was based on a hyper-awareness of what other people might be thinking about my relation to them. What better way to trigger someone into fitting this, and make you more certain of their figuring, than making someone aware of the anxiety you feel? It’s a self-fulfilling engagement I believe. One other person I’ve talked to about this expressed the same fear and has since stopped letting people know about her anxious feelings because she said other people knowing she might be anxious was making her increasingly anxious. It’s not bullshit
pjquinones747 03.28.19	I think Eons point speaks to everyones different coping methods. I myself benefit from being open because my friends can usually help me stop worrying about whatever is troubling me if it really becomes that bad. All depends on how well you cope.
