| January Jams
Pretty straight-forward, list is albums I'm looking forward to--or at least morbidly interested in the final stretch of a surprisingly well-weighted January. | | 1 | | Astronoid Astronoid
Really dug the single, but had honestly forgotten about this bad boy until being reminded earlier today--which also had the happy byproduct of inspiring this list. | | 2 | | Beirut Gallipoli | | 3 | | James Blake Assume Form | | 4 | | Broods Don't Feed the Pop Monster
Need to do some further investigation of this, since while I loved this duo's debut EP and album, while their latest...eh, not so much. It's primarily because of how generic the sound had become, so hopefully the tongue-in-cheek title of this record is actually more seriously indicative of some moves being made--but, again, will have to investigate. | | 5 | | THE FEVER 333 Strength In Numb333rs
Another "Eh, maybe" entry here. Still salty over letlive.'s demise, and Fever-333's output thus far has been, frankly, pretty average, its simplistic sound belying the pedigree of the members. Still, maybe the stars will align and the full-length will end up dropping a few surprises rather than just lather-rinse-repeat-ing. | | 6 | | Alice Merton Mint
"No Roots" and "Lash Out" are absolutely overplayed to death, but then again, so was "Dog Days Are Over" back in the day, and Lungs, despite being a decade(!) old, has remained a perennial favorite, so hopefully Merton truly follows in the footsteps of one of her most obvious influences. | | 7 | | Mono Nowhere Now Here | | 8 | | Pedro the Lion Phoenix
Don't call it a comeback! Well, maybe do. Actually just started delving into Bazan in general--and this project in particular--over the past year, which is some fairly fortuitous, and I'm gonna go ahead and call intentional timing. | | 9 | | Maggie Rogers Heard It in a Past Life
Local(ish) gal makes good, which is maybe why I'm this excited for what's, really, a pretty formulaic pop sound. No matter. "Light On" is almost distressingly catchy. Plus, she's from only an hour away, so that's gotta count for something, right? | | 10 | | Swallow the Sun When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light
Still haven't listened to Lumina Aurea, mainly due to its intimidating runtime--and don't you worry, I fully realize the irony of having a qualm like that with a band like Swallow the Sun. But I'd be lying to say a bit of fatigue didn't set in on the triple-disc Songs from the North; at a concise 8 songs--which, without any research whatsoever, I can safely assume are likely still set to max out the space on the disc--looking forward to a (relatively) more digestible offering from the stalwart doomsters. | | 11 | | Toro Y Moi Outer Peace | | 12 | | The Twilight Sad It Won/t Be Like This All the Time
All I can say is, it's about gotdang time. | | 13 | | Sharon Van Etten Remind Me Tomorrow
Ditto. | |

01.17.19 | Astronoid actually comes out February 1st (alongside many others im v. excited for) but MONO is solid out of what I've actually heard on your list. I am curious about James Blake, Swallow the Sun, and maybe The Twilight Sad though. maybe ill look into the latter two if the month is truly dry | Halfman
01.18.19 | james blake has never let me down. super pumped to hear it tomorrow. | thecheatisnotdead
01.18.19 | Good call on Astronoid, yeah, February is shaping up to be a solid month.
And yeah, my only criticism of Blake is that he's gone too long without a proper album, definitely excited for his return. | mryrtmrnfoxxxy
01.21.19 | pedro the lion album is so good |
