Aronofsky Films Ranked

Ranked list of Aronofsky directed films. Haven't seen Noah so that won't be on here. One of my current favorite directors out there so it's my way of showing appreciation. Sorry to all you film buffs for using the word "movie".

Black Swan

Black Swan

Sad to put this in last place because I really do enjoy it. It's a psychologically disturbing film tackling interesting themes, utilizing the "over the shoulder" camera to contribute to the madness. Doesn't have the impact of the others IMO.

Requiem for a Dream

Requiem for a Dream

Very disturbing movie with an iconic soundtrack. Another slow builder with a fantastic climax that will leave you shaken and probably not wanting to be using drugs any time soon.

The Wrestler

The Wrestler

A more tame and conventional movie for Aronofsky. Mickey Rourke brings the comeback performance of a lifetime and is perfectly cast here. A tragic and very well executed movie but missing some of the strangeness of his other movies to take it over the edge for me.
3Autechre
Incunabula

Pi

Another fantastic movie with a brilliant soundtrack. Can't hear Kalpol Introl ever again without thinking of that movie. Brilliant themes of obsession and trying to know the unknowable. It's claustrophobic and unnerving, with B&W being used to great effect here. The scenes where he plays Go with his former teacher are particularly great.

Mother!

An avalanche happening in slow motion. The last 30 minutes of this movie is utter chaos captured on screen. Totally sick and engrossing. And JLaw is preeeeetty attractive, so there's that.

The Fountain

The Fountain

What can I say? A little cheesy, a little overdramatic. But probably my favorite movie soundtrack ever coupled with a mindblowing 3 part interwoven story that is both literally and metaphorically about overcoming your fear of death. Hugh Jackman gives a great performance here and it has definitely shaped my perception of him ever since.
