Experimental black metal/jazz. Fave track: Cosmopolis.

Damn this one grew on me hard, the bleak atmosphere and wonderfully incorporated jazzy sections really give this an apocalyptic feel and add to the narrative. Impressive stuff.
4Horrendous
Idol

Progressive death metal. Fave track: Golgothan Tongues.

Just the right amount of OSDM worship, classic vibe but with a modern twist. And dat bass yo.
3Rolo Tomassi
Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It

Mathcore/post hardcore/some twinkly bits. Fave track: A Flood of Light.

I've been following these guys since their debut EP & their ascension is nothing short of remarkable, whereas the early releases had a spastic energy and unorganised chaos about them, this is very refined in comparison. Best track-into-track transitions of the year, easily.
2Azusa
Heavy Yoke

Progressive thrash/mathcore. Fave track: Spellbinder.

THE RIFFS ARE HUGE! 2nd best cleans of the year. incredibly varied & interesting record. Imagine putting Extol, tDEP & Rolo Tomassi in a blender. Sounds awesome right? Right.
1Skeletonwitch
Devouring Radiant Light

Atmospheric black metal/thrash. Fave track: The Vault.

There's a simple reason this is here, I can't remember having this much fun with an album for a very long time. It's accessible and catchy yet doesn't sacrifice the things which leave a more lasting impression such as engrossing consistent atmosphere & enough variation in song-writing to keep it from becoming stale.
