10 Underrated Overkill Songs
Find another list to talk about banned people please. And don't start it again |
| 1 | Overkill Wheelz
While "Wheelz" doesn't thrash, and it isn't fast, it does groove like there's no tomorrow. Introspective lyrics about not giving up in a tough situation, in way that isn't on the nose. |
| 2 | F.U.C.T.
To counterpoint "Wheelz", "F.U.C.T." doesn't care what you think of it and goes out of it's way to insult you. "We are explicit, you are exposed." |
| 3 | Skull and Bones
While "Immortalis" as an album is very overlooked, Skull and Bones as a song gets undeserved flak for featuring Randy Bylthe from Lamb of God. Many of the people saying that Randy's low growls don't fit with Overkill, but they tend to ignore that Bobby did low growls on "F.U.C.T." and it suited the band just as well as the high register vocals. |
| 4 | Shades of Grey
While it's off of one of Overkill's most widely disliked albums, "I Hear Black," and this song doesn't even qualify as metal, "Shades of Grey" is still a great look variety of styles this band can use. Shades of Grey is also a great showcase of D.D. Verni's bass. |
| 5 | Theres No Tomorow
"There's No Tomorrow" is one of the most forgotten early Overkill tracks especially forgotten from the viewpoint of the debut only, along with "Hammerhead." "There's No Tomorrow" also has a very under-loved and catchy chorus. |
| 6 | Brainfade
"Brainfade" has no business being as unloved as it is, since it's better than 6 of the other songs on the same album. Booby's vocal delivery on the verses is exceptional, and the intro riff has a similar feel as the harmonies Metallica's intro riff to "Ride the Lightning." |
| 7 | Little Bit O' Murder
"Little Bit O' Murder" opens with a short an concise drum intro, followed by a crushing riff.To draw a parallel to "F.U.C.T.," "Little Bit O' Murder" also has menacing low growls unlike Bobby's iconic high register, but with this song there's less lows than on "F.U.C.T." |
| 8 | The SRC
After the admittedly quite boring 50 second intro, "The SRC" shoots straight into a thrash and bash and then into an interesting breakdown/bridge. After that comes back even faster. The ending of this song has to be one of the fastest parts Overkill has eve played. |
| 9 | Dreaming in Columbian
While Bobby's singing on the verses is a bit underwhelming on this track, the chorus is very catchy and the chanting the background is a nice touch. The best part is the main riff and the pounding drums creating tension and release before vocals come in. |
| 10 | Certifiable
Amazing work from everyone in the band, especially Blitz for convincingly portraying a schizophrenic psychopath. The chorus of "i'm a good boy now, good boy now" is one of my favorite Overkill moments in the bands career. This song deserves so much more than the zero recognition it gets. |
