S&M

Controversial choice. This was my first exposure to Metallica when I was 10 years old, borrowed the CD from my uncle. This made me a metalhead, I had already become accustomed to the timbre and complexity of classical music and when I heard this coupled with Metallica's raw, powerful, emotive, incredible riffs and James's flawless vocal performance (haters will say auto-tune, but IDGAF)I was hooked. This album proves just how classically influenced Metallica are and how complex their music really is. It was used as an example at one of my lectures at uni about successful collaborations between classical and modern music styles. Simply incredible album and performance, and I owe a lot to it for shaping the way I approach music.
2Metallica
...And Justice for All

Features Metallica's best instrumental imo, their best song (One) imo, and the most pure form of aggression and raw emotion that they've put on a record imo.
3Metallica
Master of Puppets

Changed the game, title track is close to being their greatest song, unbelievable composition and musicianship skill on display. Cliff influence very notable on this record, it was tough to put this second, I could go either way with this and Justice.
4Metallica
Ride the Lightning

Only a smidge below the two above, incredible record still, some of their most classically influenced music, as well as some of their most thrashy moments. This is the album for the thrash Metallica purists (even more so than Kill Em All).
5Metallica
Death Magnetic

CONTROVERSIAL CHOICE, FUCK. But seriously this album is so fucking underrated, The Day That Never Comes and Suicide And Redemption, as well as All Nightmare Long are incredible 'Tallica tunes.
6Metallica
Metallica

The black album, only this high up because of how it made Metal more accessible for the masses, so its impact and it legacy can't be denied. Do I give it listens still? No but I appreciate it for what it is. The production is incredible, and Nothing Else Matters and the Unforgiven are great tunes no doubt.
7Metallica
Load

Until It Sleeps, Hero Of The Day, Bleeding Me and Outlaw Torn are fucking amazing on S&M and they're still reasonably dope here. Rest of the tunes are below par, seriously below par.
8Metallica
Reload

The Memory Remains is a decent track, particularly on S&M, Unforgiven II is passable, but the rest of the album is cringe honestly.
9Metallica
Hardwired... to Self-Destruct

Formulaic and boring, Metallica's least inventive album. Spit Out The Bone, Moth Into Flame and the title track are good fun. This ranks below Load and Reload because at least they tried something new on those albums or put some thought into the composition.
10 Metallica
Kill Em All

This is meant to be Fifth ahead of death magnetic but I fucked up the list, oh well. Classic album.
11Metallica
St. Anger

What a surprise....
