| Philly Fishtown/Center City Recs
Headed up to Philadelphia tomorrow for my buddy's bachelor party. Don't really have much of an itinerary, other than Philly cheesesteaks (which I think are just called "cheesesteaks" up there), Monk's Cafe, maybe Standard Tap (which is fairly close to where we're staying), and maybe tryna patch up the Liberty Bell. Anybody in the know, feel free to chime in with any to-do's. List is digs. | 1 | | Half Waif Lavender | 2 | | Emma Ruth Rundle/Jaye Jayle The Time Between Us
Honestly hadn't heard of the second artist on this split, but his (their?) portion may have outshone Rundle's, which was pretty great in its own right. Interested to dig deeper into that discography, which at the very least has some pretty neat titles. | 3 | | God Is an Astronaut Epitaph | 4 | | Dark Captain Dead Legs & Alibis | 5 | | Kamasi Washington Heaven And Earth
Truth be told, actually haven't busted into this bad boy yet, since a 5-LP set is a bit intimidating, but it's next up on my to-listen list fo sho. | 6 | | Rosetta Quintessential Ephemera
Never a bad time to spin some Rosetta (and I pretty much always am), but seems especially apt on the eve of traveling to their homebase. | 7 | | Chelsea Wolfe Hiss Spun | |

07.19.18 | Check out Crime and Punishment - they have my favorite beer in the city, and they just got a new chef. Monk’s is cool too. | thecheatisnotdead
07.19.18 | Sweet, nothing better than a Dostoevsky-themed bar. | TheSpirit
07.19.18 | Check out Grindcore House, it's a (vegan) grind-themed coffee shop in South Philly and it's pretty sweet.
The Mutter Museum is a lot of fun if you don't mind gross things.
Franklin Institute is a lot of fun if you have a few $$ to spare and wanna see some cool things.
Old City is really beautiful and just fun to travel through.

07.19.18 | don't know what kind of time you have but the art museum is an obvious landmark to stop at
gotta to the rocky run up the stairs too
the surrounding area is a gorgeous walk too | AtomicWaste
07.19.18 | Seconding the Franklin and the Rocky run at the art museum.
Pass up Geno's/Pat's and hit up Jim's instead for your cheesesteaks (everybody has their favorites, but it's almost universally agreed that Geno's/Pat's are for tourists only)
Brauhaus Schmitz is great for getting your beers. There's also the barcade if you're into drinking and gaming (who isn't?)
If you're out late, maybe try the Chinese Laudnrymat (Hop Sing) - it's in Chinatown, but a pretty cool speakeasy concept bar/lounge. Think they used to do a password thing, not sure how that works nowadays.
I'm bad with locations so all of these are probably relatively decentralized, but just some cool stuff there. | TheSpirit
07.19.18 | Ishkabibbles has good cheesesteaks too! | thecheatisnotdead
07.19.18 | Thanks, gang, good tips so far. Time-wise, we've got most of Friday (like 4ish onwards), all of Saturday, and probably half the day Sunday to work with, so hoping to fit in a decent bit. | robotmagician
07.19.18 | the mutter museum is awesome but definitely not for those easily disgusted lol | thecheatisnotdead
07.19.18 | Looking at the site, seems pretty neat. I feel like, by and large, we're a fairly non-squeamish bunch, so that could be a good earlier-in-the-day-type thang. |
