Recommendations That Have Worked
Here's some bands that I got recommended that have turned out really well. |
| 1 | Cap'n Jazz
This is simply fantastic music. Huge energy, diverse sound, unique vocalist that can make not being able to sing so damn listenable...love this stuff. |
| 2 | Portrait
John recommended this band to me, and I'm pretty impressed thus far. Really enjoy the tracks where the band mix it up with different kinds of instruments like mandolin or violin. |
| 3 | Jem
Haven't listened to her in ages, but getting back into her music has been great. She's definitely an underrated artist. |
| 4 | Randy Newman
Disc by disc I'm getting "Guilty: Thirty Years of Randy Newman". What a great songwriter this guy is. There's certainly more to him than "You Got A Friend In Me", as I first thought as a kid. |
| 5 | Leonard Cohen
Unbelievable songwriting ability. I can't believe I've gone this long without experiencing his music. I can certainly see where Nick Cave has gotten a lot of influence now. |
| 6 | Portraits of Past
Holy shit. This band pretty much scared the hell out of me on first listen. Had NO idea what was going on. I really dig it now, though, especially those nightmare-inducing vocals. |
| 7 | Rufus Wainwright
Very rarely have I experienced a voice more beautiful. |
| 8 | Enslaved
Fantastically executed black metal. A real treat to listen to. |
| 9 | Lagwagon
Long time spoken of and worshipped amongst my peers at school, but I had never really listened to them up until this point. Just got Blaze and also Duh, which I think are really solid listens. |
| 10 | Supergrass
Again, a lot more to them than their best known song ("Alright"). In It For The Money is a solid release, and I'm slowly working through the rest of their discography as well. |
