| 1996 | 1 | | Stratovarius Episode
The 90's were such a low point in the history of heavy metal. Each year it's getting harder and harder to find truly great albums. We got some pretty cool ones like Load, and there are quite a few albums I didn't get the chance to familiarize myself with enough (like The Jester Race and The Dark Saga) or at all (like Elegy and Morningrise), but man, 1996 was a pretty tough one for a metalhead. | 2 | | Pantera The Great Southern Trendkill
Another solid Pantera album. Some of the songs are pretty good and the others are really good. Great stuff. | 3 | | In Flames The Jester Race | 4 | | Opeth Morningrise
An enjoyable but insignificant experience. Very comparable to all other Opeth albums, it's very apparent this one helped pave the way for almost all of their other releases. This one gets bonus points for focusing more on long, 10-minutes-long epics and for being a pioneer and a very respectable second outing for the band, but loses some for its low production values and for feeling overall raw and unripe. | 5 | | Grave Digger Tunes of War
Good stuff, I understand why this is considered a classic. Great heavy metal from start to finish. | 6 | | Victor Victor
Lol, this certainly feels like 1/3 of Rush. There are some gems here, and obviously the guitar parts are great, but most of it is relatively forgettable. | |
