DoofusWainwright 05.04.18	So according to RYM I have 1000 3.5's, 845 3's and 784 4's...so it looks like 3's have a cushion to reach that 1000 marker next.

DoofusWainwright 05.04.18	I actually prefer the new Sleep to Dopesmoker - but all their stuff is between a 3.5 and a 4 23 for me is an absolute 3.5 through and through - well written but a bit soulless, undeniably impressive...but a bit of a chore for some reason

DoofusWainwright 05.04.18	Foreign Fields are the 'Sowing style indie' that it's actually ok to like. The EP 'What I Kept in Hiding' is better, a 4 no less, and I spin it a lot. That album didn't impress me as much, they hadn't quite refined things as well as they do on the EP.

Demon of the Fall 05.04.18	3.5s have gone up in my estimations recently, people need to realise it actually means 'great' not 'this is a classic & I'm scared to give it a lower rating even though it sucks' Cool idea, between 19-26 you have some of my favourite albums, haha.

Demon of the Fall 05.04.18	Yes, I've been slapping down 3s like there's no tomorrow recently. You're right of course, I just see a lot of negative comments in the review threads from people who've rated the album a 3.5 & not negative in the 'this is overrated/wanted to like it more' sort of way.

Mathematically it’s my average rating (almost exactly) but paradoxically based on the Sput system 3.5s are “great”. 3.5s probably have the widest variety in how much I actually enjoy the album in question. It’s a perfectly respectable rating, but simultaneously my most dismissive one. Some 3.5s I slap a rating on quickly and never think of again; some I listen to a ton and love but just aren’t quite a 4...
DoofusWainwright 05.04.18	3 and 2.5’s are my most dismissive - I guess 2.5 takes it ‘the good side of average’. Destined to be forgotten really. Most 3.5’s I’ll revisit eventually - just might take a while.
NorthernSkylark 05.04.18	3.5 are the outsider albums. not quite bad, not quite amazing. As Boney said, some I forget right after rating them, some I return to a lot. (in the hope that they might grow to be 4's, or just because they are really enjoyable in their own)
DoofusWainwright 05.04.18	If I genuinely listened to things randomly then I’d imagine 2.5 would be easily my most popular rating, followed by 3 and then 2. So as much as Sput thinks I’m a negative ninny - I do target stuff I think I’ll like for the most part.
Prancer 05.04.18	3.5 is the rating people get pissy over when you rate something they have rated a 4.0+ but it's really just a rating that shows you appreciate what's going on in the album without it being a noteworthy album you would come back to often.

Demon of the Fall 05.04.18	Question: if my average rating is 3.30 & my ‘variance’ is 0.74 does that automatically mean the user average rating of all the albums I’ve rated is 0.74 away from 3.30, so realistically it’d be 4.04... or do I not understand this? I’m guessing if something is rated 4 & you slap a 3 on it your variance would be 1.00. I may be getting mixed up & drawing incorrect conclusions here.

DoofusWainwright 05.05.18	Ashen - I think Sabbath volume 4 is very weak even by BS standards. 'Changes' is an abomination (0.5/5 song for me), then you have the filler track at 4. The run from 'Cornucopia' to 'Under the Sun' is bang average too imo 'Tomorrow's Dream' and 'Supernaut' are great tunes, 'Snowblind' and 'Wheels' are decent - four songs only one of which would prob make my top 10 Sabbath songs...that's not a great album. It's half a good album - so it gets a Doof 2.5. 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' is my favourite and maybe a 3.7/5 rating
Ashen 05.05.18	Fair assessment. A lot of folks who are heavy into sabbath adore vol. 4. Changes is dreadful... the closing track stands out as being binned the highest, but most of the content sounds dredged up and tired. I'm a little surprised by 33, although Are You Experienced and Live at Monterey are my favorite Hendrix
