Hidden gems pt. II
Did one of these awhile ago but got tired of adding a millions bands every time I added a band to the list. So I’m gonna get real drunk and start another one and see where we end up this time. |
1 | | Black Merda The Psych Funk of Black Merda
A great overlooked soul, funk, rock band from the 60’s and 70’s with lots of great songs and melodies. |
2 | | The Builders and the Butchers The Builders and the Butchers
Although this band has sort of fallen off their first run of albums was great great gothic folk tunes perfect for road trips. |
3 | | The Coup Kill My Landlord
Honestly it’s kinda fucked up how underrated and under appreciated this band is. I’m not a communist but I want to be one after listening to Boot’s lyrics. RIP Pam the Funktress. |
4 | | Government Issue Legless Bull
This has 8 votes. That’s fucked up. If you like punk you’ll like this. RIP John Stabb. |
5 | | The growlers Are You In or Out?
This band kinda sucks now but for the first half of this decade they were gonna be the best band ever. Chill ass surf-y beach vibes. Gets pretty psychedelic and weird but always catchy and full of excellent songwriting. |
6 | | Guantanamo Baywatch Chest Crawl
Similar to the Growlers in the surf/psych aspect and also completely fucking sucking nowadays... but this album slays. |
7 | | Holy Molar Cavity Search
If you’re into 31G shit then you probably already love this... and if not then brace yrself. |
8 | | Hot Snakes Audit in Progress
This only had 71 votes which is bullshit. |
9 | | The Jonbenet Ugly/Heartless
Once you get over the Zeppelin-esque riffs mixed with punk/post-hardcore-ness you’ll dig it. |
10 | | Reatards Grown Up, Fucked Up
Snotty, dirty, loud, and pissed. Punk. |
11 | | Kill Sadie Experiments in Expectation
One of those old post-hardcore records that’s better than all the post-hardcore in the last 15 years. |
12 | | Kill The Capulets The Stranger
Post-punk guitar but so much more. The vocals are a little eh but mostly everything else is great. |
13 | | Larry and His Flask All That We Know
It’s like iff AJJ was good. It’s bluegrass-y ass punk with with an actual singer and some fucking delightful harmonies. Most of the songs are fast and all the string work ( ALL the string work) is great. |
14 | | MDC Millions of Dead Cops
I don’t know if this is necessarily a hidden gem but it’s barely got a hundred votes and it’s an absolute fucking classic. Furious punk with lots of opinions. |
15 | | The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower Love in the Fascist Brothel
The fuck? How is this so unpopular? One of the most snottiest punk bands ever while also being one of the most clever. |
16 | | Reagan Youth A Collection of Pop Classics
Classic political hardcore punk |
17 | | The Budos Band The Budos Band II
New York afro-beat Jazz shit that’s kinda dark but always groovy. |
18 | | Rorschach Autopsy
Underrated fast-core pissed-offness band that probably influenced all yr favorite bands, |
19 | | Sly and The Family Stone Fresh
I know the band isn’t a hidden gem but this album sure is. The first song in particular is brilliant. |
20 | | T.S.O.L. Dance With Me
Less than 75 ratings Sputnik.com which is just shameful. Punk that is dipped in goth. |
21 | | Trainwreck Riders Ghost Yards
THE fucking road trip album if you are in a car with me. Folksy, country-y, great songwriting. A definite grower. Let the songs seep through yr psyche all earworm like. |
22 | | Victor! Fix the Sun Retracable Claws
Another post-hardcore band that is better than all the ones you like, |
23 | | Whores. Ruiner
Their LP didn’t blow me away but the first 2 EPS these guys did kicked ass. They put on a great live show by the way. |
24 | | Palm (PA) Rock Island
One of the few interesting/original bands nowadays that are actually pushing the envelope. Much better than their earlier material. |
25 | | Worws Truth To Power
I have no idea how to pronounce their name but super loud/political punk in the Trump era. No shortage of pissed-offness and lots of promise from a young band. |
26 | | Crocodiles Summer Of Hate
Crocodiles pull off shit bands would only dream of. Dreamy at times and furious at others. But overall a great record that doesn’t overstay it’s wlexome. |
27 | | Dead Coyote xYx
This is what would happen if all those shitty albums you like (Nevermind, Heaven and Hell, Rage Against The Machine, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin I,II,III,IV, and Physical Graffiti) were good. |
