Tiny Music... Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop

I reckon this is where STP cemented themselves as more than just grunge imitators. There is a unique sound here, delivered through excellent songs and raw but perfect execution.

Best Tracks: Trippin’ On A Hole In A Paper Heart, Adhesive, Big Bang Baby

Purple

An improvement on Core in every way. More diversity, better song-craft and more polished performances. Pretty much perfect.

Best Tracks: Meatplow, Still Remains, Big Empty
3Stone Temple Pilots
Core

One of the greatest debuts of all time. Scott Weiland’s singing is a little derivative of fellow grunge bands of the time but it doesn’t get in the way of what is an awesome album.

Best Tracks: Dead & Bloated, Creep, Plush
4Stone Temple Pilots
Shangri-La-Dee-Da

I think this is STP’s most underrated release. It’s certainly a dip in quality compared to the first three albums but there is a lot here to enjoy.

Best Tracks: Days Of The Week, Black Again, Too Cool Queenie

No. 4

There is a rawness here that works well, particularly on the heavier tracks but overall I find this to be a pretty inconsistent release.

Best Tracks: Down, Church On Tuesday, I Got You (I’m not a huge fan of Sour Girl)

Stone Temple Pilots (2018)

This isn’t as bad as some people are suggesting. The songs are there but the production misses the mark. If you can get past the singer not being Scott Weiland yet sounding exactly like Scott Weiland, then there is plenty here to enjoy.

Best Tracks: Meadow, Thought She’d Be Mine, The Art of Letting Go

Stone Temple Pilots

I re-listened to this recently and it’s much better than I remembered. Still not great and certainly their weakest effort mostly due to a lack of variety. The album seems pretty one-dimensional and bereft of any obvious highlights.

Best Tracks: Cinnamon, Hickory Dichotomy
