| Megadeth Live Albums Ranked
Thought it would be cool to do a live album ranking rather than another installment of the LP ranking. From albums that aren't entirely live, I am only rating their live tracks and their relative worth to the rest of Megadeth's live stuff. | | 1 |  | Megadeth
Warchest
You can't get more classic Megadeth than CDs 4/5 from Warchest. We've got the classic Dave/Menza/Marty/otherdude line up. Marty is studio production on here. Dave's vocals are the best you'll get. Audible bass, and man oh man do you realize how much this band misses Nick on drums. From his tone to his energy he's the best drummer they ever and will ever have. Between the two CDs you've got mostly every classic track you could want. Even Rattlehead, the Skull Beneath the Skin (although daves singing really shit the bed on this one) and Black Friday. killer. | | 2 |  | Metallica/Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax
The Big 4: Live from Sofia, Bulgaria
I originally had the Buenos Aires album above this. Dave really brought his A game on this album. His vocals as clear and as potent as his younger self. The setlist is of course classic, as if it wouldn't be for this setting. Chris Broderick isn't Marty but no one is and he does a fine jjob at staying faithful to the solos and is a very crisp guitarist. Headcrusher was a nice addition. Last but not least the crowd really boosts this album up the list. It's always nice to hear the sing along to Trust. The one big thing that keeps this from being their best live album is Chris or whatever his name is Drover. Every live album he plays on his tone is pure shite. It sounds like there's a wet blanket over his bass drum. | | 3 |  | Megadeth
That One Night: Live in Buenos Aires
This is their equivalent to Maiden's Rock in Rio. You've got all the classics, and the great additions of the thrashy as fuck Kick the Chair which could easily have been written on Rust in Peace, Blackmail the Universe, and although it's pretty famous its just not on their other live albums Set The World Afire. Again you've got that famous south american raucous crowd. The drumming is okay. A surprise is Glen Drovers ability on the axe. He's crisp and not showy. Rude Awakening
If i'm actually going to listen to Megadeth live, which I don't do too much anymore, I actually prefer this to Buenos Aires. Where Buenos Aires is a straightforward live album only featuring the performances, Rude Awakening makes you feel like you're actually at the concert. You've got classic dave shitting on the audience, classic dave throwing shade at Metallica on Mechanix, a great 4 or so minute interlude in She-Wolf to let the band rip their respective solos. Dread and the Fugitive mind was a really nice addition, to be honest Al Pitrelli gets more flack than he should. He's not the cleanest guitarist ever, but his style is closer to Marty than anyone else's. Dave sounds great, guitars sound great, and the drumming doesn't fucking suck. | | 5 |  | Megadeth
Live Trax
A banger. I had no idea this existed until I started this list and I was surprised to find out we've got the classic lineup on here which is really what bumps this album way up. It's classic megadeth. Since this is an EP there's not much material, so it just can't be rated that highly, but what IS on here is great stuff for anyone who digs the 90's era Megadeth sound. Missing are a lot of the classic songs but youve still got Peace Sells and Tornado of Souls, and they do a great job on She Wolf and A tout le monde. | | 6 |  | Megadeth
Unplugged in Boston
Probably just for connoisseurs but this was an unexpected surprise. The first question to ask about is Dave's Vocals. Is he gonna sound like shit without 11 cranked distortion? He doesn't. First track he sounds studio. The second thing you'll notice is the power of the drumming. I dont know who the fuck Jimmy Degrasso is, maybe I should, but he's Nick Menza incarnate. The Mustaine and Al Pitrelli guitars really fill each other out. In other words their playing really adds to the bigness of the overall sound. You don't expect that from unplugged albums. Use the Man gets shit on but it sounds great here since its a song that features acoustic playing in the first place. And finally, Al Pitrelli really nails all the solos and its a treat to hear them in unplugged form. | | 7 |  | Megadeth
Live Trax II
The second half of the Trax series. The whole series is half live album of Cryptic writings and half other stuff. So if you like that album, which I do, this is a nice treat. Again the best part about this is the classic lineup. It's 5 songs long so it really can't be that high. | | 8 |  | Megadeth

Countdown to Extinction Live
Yeah this would be alot better if the mix wasn't fucking awful. Drovers awful tone is way too loud. Dave's stupid Dean guitar sounds bad. Dave Ellefson might as well not have shown up because he's mixed out totally. One highlight is dave's vocals. He sounds pretty decent. That's basically what turns this album around, and the inclusion of some other classics. | | 10 |  | Megadeth
Rust in Peace Live
Regardless of the fact that this is a live album of Rust in Fucking Peace, this album sucks. By far the worst mix of any megadeth album ever live or studio. Drover does his best st anger drumming impression. Dave's vocal chords sound like they've shrunk to the size of a raisin. Even Chris broderick is off here. Such a fucking shame. The only redeemable thing about this album is that they played Poison was the cure, and the fact that dave must have drank some goop shit at half time that cleared out his vocals because he sounds alot better during the second half of the concert. The only reason this is rated as highly as it is on this site im sure is for nostalgia reasons. | | 11 |  | Megadeth

I mean, he founded the band together with Mustaine and they share a deep and long-standing friendship. Apart from being a very capable bass player and co-writing several songs he brought consistency and inspiration to the band. I just think he deserves to be mentioned within this lineup as much as Nick and Marty. | Doctuses

But as far as being a competent bass player I dont know what value that has other than being a competent bass player.
