Overlooked Black Metal Gems of 2016-17

Some super awesome stuff I was late to that deserves way more attentions that it's getting.
5Sortilegia
Sulphurous Temple

Canadian Black Metal from a husband and wife duo that's no frills, no bullshit, and all around kickass. Similar to Byyrth, it's not doing anything revolutionary, but it's just done very very well. The female vocals also give this album a nice unique edge.
4Byyrth
Saviors of Armageddon

More amazing US Raw Black Metal, but this time with a great Vampyric bite to it that creates a really somber and mystifying atmosphere. This album is doing anything super new and original, but it's doing its old style more than enough justice for me to enjoy it.
3Orgy of Carrion
Obscured Ceremonies Under Hell Moon

Some of the most hellish and evil sounding Black Metal I've ever heard. This album is frantic, chaotic, desolate, and all around a perfect black metal album. The instrumentation is super lo-fi but still distinguishable, and the vocalist is fantastic with some of the most anguished an wretched screams I've heard in a while. It's also awesome that this is from the US because as of late, the US scenes have really paled in comparison to the European scenes.
2Blood Tyrant
Aristocracy of Twilight

Raw Black Metal from the Netherlands with a damn near flawless sound. It's harsh and fast but also melodic enough that you can easily make out the compelling medieval grooves of the guitars and drums.
1Chambre Froide
Rouges Chapelles

France has one of the best Black Metal scenes in history, and this album is one of its newest masterpieces. It's raw black metal with the type of production and guitar work you'd expect, which is definitely not a bad thing, but this album has two very unique qualities that push it over the edge for me. The vocals are so incredibly spiteful and hateful and convey real emotion better than a lot of Black Metal Vocalists. The drumming is also vastly superior to many of Black Metal albums of recent memory with the drummer employing far more than just your typical black beats and gallop rhythms. The drums fills are badass and the playing is varied enough to give the album a really dynamic and unique feel.
