pjquinones747 01.16.18	I've gotten the same gripe from people who don't like me constantly comparing bands to other bands too whether it's their own music or not.
DungeonBoy 01.16.18	I've been in bands where the members can't agree on what bands we should use as a basis for our sound and it's absolutely infuriating. Ever have someone tell you they want to play heavy music without giving any examples?
DinosaurJones 01.16.18	It kind of makes sense. When people ask me what my band sounds like, I just told each member to give tell me what their biggest influence is when it comes to our band. So our band sounds kind of like Jeff Rosenstock, Blink182 & Gogol Bordello. Now no one wants to hear what my band sounds like.

DinosaurJones 01.16.18	Yeah, our drummer is actually pretty good friends with them. He goes and hangs out with them whenever they have shows in the area. And our bassist/lead singer is such a huge blink fan to the point where it's almost sickening. Well, he's gotten a little better about it now that he's getting older and I'm trying to broaden his musical horizon. And I just like Jeff Rosenstock a lot.
pjquinones747 01.16.18	Oh that's awesome. How does it work with you guys meshing styles? I try my best to be a student of metal but with this project I essentially want to do all of the Underoath post-rock stuff with melodic hardcore in the crescendos, my guitarist just wants to play what he calls "shoegaze" which I think technically would also be post rock, and our other guitarist is just a huge music geek like me with a great affinity for blackgaze.
DinosaurJones 01.16.18	It tends to work out all right. Generally, our bassist is just all about straightforward pop-punk, and our drummer wants to throw in lots of quirky ideas, a lot of soft-loud dynamics, strong builds, and different ideas that aren't generally found in pop-punk, and I'm the happy medium trying to figure out what fits where. We never argue about anything, and try to give everything a shot. It's worked out pretty well so far, haha.
pjquinones747 01.16.18	That's exciting to be able to have chemistry like that. This is new for me and the only previous band I've been in was spearheaded by one guy who was just LOADED with ideas and riffs, so it was mostly me and him discussing ideas while everyone else just played the parts he wrote. Not used to having everyone have ideas but I'm excited to see how it works out. Gotta get myself some new double pedals though.
ButteryBiscuitBass 01.16.18	I have an internal struggle. Fortunately I am the only one involved in my project, but I am always fighting with my desire to explore heavier stuff when I should be putting all my time into the Neofolk / softer sound because I want to hone a craft rather than be a jack of all trades so to speak.
DinosaurJones 01.16.18	Yeah, we used to have a rhythm guitar player, but there was some out-of-band drama between him and our bass player, and he decided to quit. So rather than trying to find someone else, we've just moved on as a 3 piece, and it's working out pretty well. There are some times when I wish we had another guitar player, but I try my best to fill songs out. And nothing grinds my gears more than being told what to play, though it might just be a personal thing. I'll come to practice with a riff or an idea of a structure, and we'll all jam it out. I don't ever want to tell anyone what to play (though I might suggest something), because I despise it so much myself. Also, I can't play drums, so I don't presume to write them.

pjquinones747 01.16.18	@Dinosaur I wish I knew guitar so I could help my guitarist with feeling out a part he's unsure of..i just make weird noises and hope he understands lmao. We both take criticism very well so it works out. Our other buddy whose a prog loving music nerd is newer to jamming with me and my other friend so we're still feeling out his writings habits.
DinosaurJones 01.16.18	yeah, I've at least gotten pretty decent at making drum sounds with my mouth to try and explain what I'm thinking of when I have a drum part in mind, haha.
DinosaurJones 01.16.18	Oh, also (apologies for the double post), our drummer has his own drum company. Check out Beatbox Drums. They're a portable drum kit... and when I say portable, I mean the entire kit fits into a box smaller than a 4x12 cab. And they sound awesome, though I wouldn't recommend them for a heavier type band. It's pretty goddamn amazing.
ButteryBiscuitBass 01.16.18	Yeah I have, but if I did it I would use the same moniker similar to what October Falls did with neofolk then eventually black metal. My only problem is losing touch with the folky side of it if I go heavier, but maybe I just think too much. Haha.
pjquinones747 01.16.18	@Dinosaur that sounds awesome. I'd love to do that for pop up jam sessions. @Buttery I wish I could relate but i am so not the person to create songs, I just use my drums to make them flow and make some suggestions when i can articulate my ideas well enough lol
DinosaurJones 01.16.18	Yeah, it's really cool. I'm actually hoping to start working with him once he starts needing employees. I really believe in the product having seen it being used a lot. He's gone to a bunch of music conferences and NAMM shows, he's going to the one in California later this month. The only concern is that he could totally just up and ditch us if it really takes off, haha. And he's a really good drummer, plus he sings, which is pretty important to our sound what with having 3 part harmonies and all that.
