2DJ Tennis
DJ-Kicks

I pretty much knew this would be my album of the year before my first listen was even halfway done. As far as dj mixes go, it’s top class in every regard - mixing, sequencing, recontextualizing, pacing - all phenomenal and all working within that enormous, beautiful tracklist. But what made this rise far above everything else I heard this year is my peripheral connection to the record and to DJ Tennis himself, after accidentally going to an amazing party that !K7 put on to celebrate his DJ Kicks, and then months later closing out my year by seeing him DJ at a festival back home. Seeing the crowd swell from a few dozen to hundreds over the few hours of that set, being hit with some of the most sublime dance music I’ve ever heard in his closing segment and then seeing his face afterwards - just the biggest, brightest smile and the most joyous expression I’ve seen from an artist after closing out a show. Beautiful moment for a beautiful man. luv
