Sniffs best of "unknown" 2017

A version that is somewhat ranked but still not very ranked only featuring 4.0+ albums I think should've been talked about more this year.
1Our Ceasing Voice
Free Like Tonight

If you dig Thomas Feiner, Nick Cave, Tom Waits-esque vocals, can handle a fair bit of cheese and often fuck around with alt-rock that sounds and feels like post rock. This is the deal for you, no doubt. FFO: I Like Trains
2Jaimie Branch
Fly or Die

What if jazz music always was this good and adventurous. FFO: Songwriting over earworms-jazz
3Lonefront
Cimilada Qaxootiga

Aarons review turned me on to this piece of ambient techno that every fan of the genre should jam at least once. FFO: Drifting away into minimalistic changes
4God's Drugs
Loaded

From the same lable as the one above. Also this a live take I would guess but a bit more house leaning. FFO: House that matters
5Claudio PRC
Volumi Dinamici

Simplistic and beautifully crafted techno with ambient leanings and a superb sense of sound design. FFO: Well crafted techno sounds
6Marcus Fjellstrom
Skelektikon

Dark ambient journeys from this highly schooled musician who sadly passed this year. FFO: Experimentalism
7Okada
Floating Away from the World

Electronic post rock almost. If you give this time it will reward you greatly. FFO: Slow builds
8Broken Thoughts
Realign

Sound design makes for a dark trip into electroland. FFO: Chinese stuff
9Sol (USA)
Upheaval

Post metal and doom in a combo that works better than I thought it would. FFO: Cranial from this year
10Joni Void
Selfless

Constellation records release that is a mixed bag of electronics that works all to well. FFO: Uncanny electronics
11The Comet Is Coming
Death to the Planet

Modern jazz according to Shabaka Hutchings. Has a real neat flow and groove. FFO: Craycray sax play
12T.Raumschmiere
Heimat

Techno that sounds very organic. Has quickly rosen to be one of my favorite releases of this year. FFO: Drifting away into lullyland
13Arditti Quartet / Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France
Pascal Dusapin: Quatuor VI; Quatuor VII

I'm not an expert on classical but I really dig this. Thanks Jac. FFO: Modern classical I guess
14Mister Lizard
7"

Powerviolence record of the year? FFO: Tower of Rome
15Lvmen
Mitgefangen Mitgehangen

Where's the Lvmen hype even? Post rock, jam rock and so on -ish. FFO: Lvmens earlier work which rules
16X.Y.R.
Labyrinth

Ambient record of the year for my I think. FFO: Biosphere
17She The Throne
She The Throne

Deezer recs. Glitchy dark electronic trip hop music from the creators of From the Kites of San Quentin. FFO: Portishead but downy
18Fallow
Trelu

Filthy sludge. FFO: Hell, Thou
19Hieroglyphic Being, Sarathy Korwar and Shabaka Hutchings
A.R.E. Project

Techno, house and organic jazz. Just like the sum of its peers would have you believe. FFO: New approaches
20Emmanuel
Rave Culture

Goes really hard in my car on the longer rides. Old school raving techno. FFO: 90's rave culture
21God Mother
Vilseledd

Swedish Full of Hell goes hard and this should be talked about more. FFO: FoH and modern grind stuff
22Esmerine
Mechanics of Dominion

Perfect blend of playfulness and beauty. Post rock has never sounded better from Esmerine. FFO: post rock of the old school
23Massgrav
Stockholm Rockers

Scandifastthrascore. Madness in it's rawest form from the Swedish powerhouse trio. FFO: crust gone mad
24DjRum
Broken Glass Arch

How about that for a year finishing IDM (and every other electronic genre) record. FFO: Information Flash from this year
25Merkabah (PL)
Million Miles

Jazz and prog rock shouldn't be as good as this. FFO: prog but fun
26Death Toll 80k
Step Down

Grindcore is goat. FFO: Classic grind
27Ylva
M E T A

ISIS worship done right. Good pick by Cryptologous. FFO: Post metal and sludge you know the deal.
28World Narcosis
Lyruljóra

Hi Aaron. This blackened Icelandic grind mess is beaut. FFO: spaced out grind and black metal
29Marco Shuttle
Systhema

Spooky droning dark electronics with IDM and/or dungeon synth leanings. FFO: Patient builds and genre mixtures
30The Inward Circles
And Right Lines Limit and Close All Bodies

Where's my drone crew at. This is pretty good drone I must say. FFO: GY!BE drones.
