Favorite Christmas Albums

Just ten of my favorite Christmas albums to take me through the holiday season. Feel free to pass it up if Christmas music brings out your more Grinch-like qualities.
1South Park
Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics

The most demented Christmas album, with carols sung lovingly by an animated piece of poop. I only wish they'd included the Santa and Jesus loungy Christmas medley from the TV special (but they'd have probably had to pay Duran Duran a fortune).
2The Slant
Reindeer Pie

This is actually my wife's old band, and I sang backup on a couple of tracks, so I can't ethically review it for you here. Our friends like it, though. One of these days, I'll get the band's permission to post it on YouTube, so people can hear it if they want.
3Vince Guaraldi Trio
A Charlie Brown Christmas

The music from the old beloved television special. For many of us, it's essential holiday fare.
4Mannheim Steamroller

You may not know you know it, but a lot of Mannheim Steamroller music is used as bumper music on TV or radio. (Gee mister, what's a radio?) For me, theirs is the definitive version of "Silent Night".
5Mannheim Steamroller
A Fresh Aire Christmas

Features their "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing", "O Come, O Come Emanuel", "The Holly and the Ivy" and "Carol of the Bells", some of their best.
6Blackmore's Night
Winter Carols

Candice Night has one of the loveliest voices around. And a strong Christmas original song, "Christmas Eve".
7Jethro Tull
The Jethro Tull Christmas Album

Lots of flute. A few new originals. And all of their older Christmas songs. "Another Christmas Song" was once covered by opera singer Placido Domingo. It was a hideous cover, but still.
8Celtic Woman
A Christmas Celebration

The first of several Christmas albums by this all-female ensemble, this one features the group's original lineup.
9Loreena McKennitt
A Midwinter Night's Dream

This is another singer whose voice I could listen to all day. A Canadian singer with strong Celtic influences.
10Waverly Consort
A Renaissance Christmas Celebration

Christmas music from the Renaissance period by this early music ensemble.
