12.13.17 | 5/5: Fade to Black > Creeping Death > The Call of Ktulu
4.5/5: Ride the Lightning
4/5: Fight Fire with Fire > For Whom the Bell Tolls
3.5/5: Trapped Under Ice
3/5: Escape |
WretchedCacophony
12.13.17 | I hate this list simply because of the implication that any song on here is weak. Surely you saying Escape is last on the list doesn't mean it sucks, but I don't like saying things like "This song is the weakest one on the album" |
guitarded_chuck
12.13.17 | for whom the bells tolls is one of the their best period dont front |
TheSpirit
12.13.17 | @Wretched - i'm sorry you dislike that some people like more songs more than others #allsongsmatter
@guitarded - i agree w/you, everything on this album holds as some of the best work in their discography |
KjSwantko
12.13.17 | Escape and Trapped are good songs, they're just not classic-level like the other 6. Those others could all be considered among the best metal songs ever written. |
guitarded_chuck
12.13.17 | good point man agreed
my top 25 metallica would probably be like 90% rtl and mop |
DungeonBoy
12.13.17 | Album rules, one could even say it's a classic |
KjSwantko
12.13.17 | Of course it's a classic lol. |
Koris
12.13.17 | One of the band's best for sure. The title track, Creeping Death, Call of Cthulhu, and Fade to Black are my personal faves. I also have a soft spot for Escape, even though I know many people often regard it as the album's worst |
KingdomOfTyrant
12.13.17 | 1. Creeping Death

12.13.17 | @Kingdom: Switch 4 and 5, and put 6 last, and then that's my list :] |
cold
12.13.17 | I don't even blame you for putting "For Whom The Bell Tolls' low on the list. It's an amazing classic, don't get me wrong, just highly overplayed. |

12.13.17 | If I had to rank...
1. The Call Of The Ktulu
2. Creeping Death
3. Ride The Lightning
4. Fight Fire With Fire
5. Fade To Black
6. For Whom The Bell Tolls
7. Trapped Under Ice
8. Escape |
DungeonBoy
12.13.17 | When I was young I always thought Fight Fire with Fire was such a killer opener. I think that was partially because I was under the false impression that the first song HAD to be one of the best songs on the album, but now I really don't think it's that great, and think y'all rank it pretty accordingly around here. |
guitarded_chuck
12.13.17 | fight fires awesome, in my top 3 here |
kalkwiese
12.13.17 | Na, I agree with dungeonboy actually. It's not that interesting and there is better stuff on here. |

12.13.17 | Either way, AJFA is the GOAT |

12.13.17 | Either way, AJFA is the GOAT [2] |

12.13.17 | Great album, but I personally prefer Fade to Black over 1&2. Just such a good song. |
cold
12.13.17 | When I hear "Fade To Black", I just think of James Hetfield's face melting off. |
KingdomOfTyrant
12.13.17 | Either way, AJFA is the GOAT [3] |
DarkSideOfLucca
12.13.17 | 7 is my 1
but 1 is my 1 if we're talking about live |

It's a poor man's Battery. As far as I'm concerned, Battery will always be their quintessential opener |
TheSpirit
12.13.17 | Hit the Lights > Battery tbh |

12.13.17 | "It's a poor man's Battery. As far as I'm concerned, Battery will always be their quintessential opener"
As much as I adore "Battery", for openers I would say "Blackened" wins above all. |
DarkSideOfLucca
12.13.17 | Blackened would beat out Battery but for some reason Lars' drumming pisses me off to no end on that song. He sounds fine on Battery, but Blackened just demands a more intense metal drummer and Lars either wasn't willing or wasn't capable of matching any other member on that track and because he's louder than everyone else it's impossible to ignore. |
cold
12.13.17 | I'm pretty sure AJFA is when Lars went full on diva, so that would explain the drums on "Blackened". |
KjSwantko
12.13.17 | Blackened > Battery (but only slightly). |
DarkSideOfLucca
12.13.17 | Really the main thing I don't like about Metallica is that they are not literally the same band (same songs, same albums) as Meshuggah. |
Kompys2000
12.13.17 | TBH Creeping Death is the best metal song ever written. Only thing that even touches it is Number of the Beast. |
