In that, it's just a way of implementing your music, whether you like it more brutal or more slick and pretty. Doesn't need to be defined as a separate genre.

Demon of the Fall 12.12.17	I'm all for adding extra genres, not taking them away. There's some crossover between them but you'll actually find the majority of artist pages only have one of melo-DM/DM, not both (& for good reason).
bgillesp 12.12.17	The tagging here with melodeath is pretty poor though. If they are distinct, people should stop tagging melodeath band with Death Metal as well. That was the reason my 2016 DM slice was so big, because I almost exclusively listened to melodeath back then. Prog metal gets thrown around as a tag way too often as well.

Demon of the Fall 12.12.17	That doesn't allow for artists changing over time though... Are Carcass Melo-DM or DM. Well, they're actually both (plus more), it completely depends which album you're talking about.

I love their first EP & LP but their 'classic' melo-DM album Slaughter of the Soul isn't for me. I agree that album tagging probably can't realistically happen, I'm just arguing against the whole 'we only need one tag' viewpoint.

I've noticed how a lot of people have one or two dominant genres whereas mine is spread out fairly evenly. I'm guessing there might be a couple that just missed the cut as well (wish we could see more than 8).
