A Drummer's Favorite Drummers

I am the drummer in question
10Decapitated
Winds of Creation

Vitek was 15 when he recorded a masterpiece technical death metal album. Let that sink in. His death is even more unfortunate as to just how talented he really was.
9Megadeth
Rust in Peace

Before his death, Nick Menza was among the greatest metal drummers of all time, being an integral founder of thrash metal drumming and heavy metal drumming in general. I learned drums to Rust In Peace and while I could never nail any of his parts, the technique has stuck.
8The Doors
Morrison Hotel

John Densmore is #8 here but honestly has influenced me A LOT more than a #8 pick would seem. The Doors are among the top 3 favorite bands of all time for myself, and a large part of it is due to Densmore's bluesy, jazzy, straightforward yet tricky drum style.
7The White Stripes
White Blood Cells

Meg White isn't a great drummer, but the simplicity of TWS' music is amped by her simplistic yet effective drumming AND THAT IS THE POINT. Drums are, at their core, meant to compliment the music, and Meg White has always done just that.
6Ringo Deathstarr
Gods Dream

You probably aren't super familiar with Dustin Gaudet but he drums for the shoegaze/dream pop group mentioned above and his super loud, super spacy drum style has influenced me tremendously lately.
5Motley Crue
Shout at the Devil

You may be asking why the fuck is Tommy Lee on here, but HONESTLY while he is not the most technically proficient drummer, he is the guy who picked up from the insanity of Keith Moon and made drumming equally as flamboyant as guitar or vocals, and for that, he changed the game.
4The Suicide Machines
Destruction By Definition

Derek Grant is not human. He's got 14 arms, and 20 legs, I think. If there were ever a ska punk drummer to idolize it is this guy right here. Simply put the most insane drum tracks I've ever heard laid onto record are on the first two Suicide Machine records, that no bullshitting.
3The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Are You Experienced

Mitch Mitchell took the idea of jazz improv drumming and relegated it to what Jimi Hendrix was creating. By and large, the star of the debut record was Mitchell as he had his shit together most and honestly of the 1960's era drummers, I highly doubt many can top his skill and ingenuity.
2Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin IV

It's hard to be a drummer and not be a little influenced or at least in awe of John Bonham. Say what you will about Led Zeppelin, but Bonzo was clearly not of this world in his drumming abilities. He took already treaded paths and created insanely innovative and new drum ideas, and perfected the "groove". I'd place him #1 but leave him at #2 for the sheer sake of not wanting to be cliched.
1Slayer
South of Heaven

Mr. Dave Lombardo is not overtly progressive in his playing, let's be honest. But he's the ideal and consummate metal drummer through and through, and so many, myself including have taken all the influence in this world from this guy. Add to this he is a legit solid dude, and really humble, you got yourself a drum hero.
