B-day pickups
Turned 26 last week, list is albums I picked up from the local record stores near where I live. |
1 | | Oathbreaker Rheia
Post-Black metal hardcore with emotion? It's hard to describe this album. The female singer/screamer really makes this unique, her soft singing voice makes for some beautifully eerie sections. The heavy chaotic parts are such a contrast it sends shivers down my spine. The whole album is a haunting experience. |
2 | | Yngwie Malmsteen Rising Force
Classic album by shredder-in-chief Yngwie. |
3 | | Mestis Polysemy
Cool instrumental tunes from Animals as Leaders guitarist Javier Reyes. Clear record. |
4 | | Elder (USA-MA) Reflections of a Floating World
Latest release from psych-stoney jam band Elder. This album is a rifftastic journey. Everything here is solid and it comes together perfectly. Strong AotY contender, this was an amazing find. Clear w/ green swirl. |
5 | | David Bowie The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
Another classic. Never really got into Bowie until I heard this album. Yellow/gold colored. |
6 | | Comets on Fire Avatar
Extraordinary psych rock. Sweet bass riffs throughout, trippy guitar, and jam after tasty jam. Was not expecting to find this album. Swirly splattery brown and gold colored. |
7 | | Tower of Power Live and in Living Color
I really like this funky band for whatever reason. Super cool brass section makes these songs pop. Surprising technicality here too. I was lucky to meet Mic Gillette at my school in 2013, really cool dude. |
8 | | Thin Lizzy Jailbreak
Not gonna lie, I got this album just for The Boys are Back in Town and Emerald. Rocks hard. |
9 | | Death Human
Instant purchase as soon as I saw it. One of the best, most solid works of death metal ever. On the fence about the ITP repress, but this sounds great so most likely I'll be on the lookout for that. |
10 | | Simon and Garfunkel Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme
I wish I was hooOOOoomeward booound |
11 | | The Budos Band Burnt Offering
Afro-beat funky soul-jazz instrumental band. It sounds like an old James Bond film took drugs in a noir mystery house. Whatever the hell it is, it's cool. |
