10.13.17 | Shoulda got the les paul man. You can be metal af in standard don't have to tune down, but you do you. Good amp distortion>Pedal Distortion>Bad amp distortion. Just use what you got and save up money for an amp with decent distortion, Orange, Mesa, 5150 (peavy). Also whammy bars are pointless unless you are already really good. You won't even use it that much. |
HeadOfTheBaptist
10.13.17 | And if you're gonna change tunings a lot for the love of god DO NOT get a guitar with a floyd rose bridge. My first guitar had one and it was a nightmare. |
dbizzles
10.13.17 | Should have bought a banjolele.
RIP |
bloc
10.13.17 | Peavey is a pretty famous brand and really underrated imo. Even their solid state stuff is really good.
But yeah the Boss Metal Zone is notorious for its shitty buzzsaw tone. Perfect for that Scandinavian brand of death metal though. |
DarkSideOfLucca
10.13.17 | ALICE IN CHAINS (heart signs forever) |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | for pedals buy a joyo. super cheap but great quality for the price. |

Tyler.
10.14.17 | pedal ive bought years ago, and still use today. i think bloc showed me this. you can buy it from fucking walmart lmao |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | also you can put new pickups in your tele if you want. so like.. slowly improve things over time instead of jsut nuying a whole new guitar idk. its what i did and i had a lot of fun and learned a lot |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | or maybe im dumb idk |
rodrigo90
10.14.17 | No, you're not that's a pretty clever solution instead of buying another guitar I guess... |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | what kind of pickups are in it now? i bet single coils? |
rodrigo90
10.14.17 | yes it's a single coil |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | https://www.sweetwater.com/c965--Seymour_Duncan_Single-coil_Electric_Guitar_Pickups
check some of these out. maybe you can find something that may start to give you the tone you want. changing them is pretty easy too |
artiswar
10.14.17 | The idea of playing metal on a telecaster is kind of amazing. Nothing else quite says you just don't give a fuck. |
rodrigo90
10.14.17 | I wish I could read those forums asking if you can play metal with a telecaster before...that's why everytime I tried to play chevelle songs the guitar sounded weird... |
bloc
10.14.17 | I think the guy from Wintersun plays a Tele. But yeah, I will rep Joyo until I die. Super solid pedal brand and super fuckin underrated. They pretty much make clones of other pedals that are like 5 times the price.
Seeing one on sale at Wal-mart however made me lol |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | yeah i questioned if it was ever real at first lol |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | i have their voodoo octave as well lol |
bloc
10.14.17 | Rod, Seymour Duncan has a set of single coil pickups called Hot Rails and they're meant to beef up single coils and make them sound like hot humbuckers geared towards rock and metal. If you plan on keeping your Tele, which you should, then get a set of these and put them in your Tele. Plus they look awesome. |
bloc
10.14.17 | I had the Voodoo Octave as well. And their Vintage OD is god tier. |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | honestly cobbling together cheap gear and slowly amassing the sound and style that you like is the coolest thing ever. has charm that expensive "boutique" gear wont give you |
artiswar
10.14.17 | God the image of a young Rodrigo playing Chevelle on a Telecaster is too fucking much for me I'm out |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | i should buy another joyo pedal tbh |
bloc
10.14.17 | Agreed Tyler. Juxtaposing "boutique" gear for cheap no-name stuff (at least for pedals) can really make you stand out. It's kinda ironic. |
CaimanJesus
10.14.17 | The real question is: Did the guitar salesman block you on facebook after? |
rodrigo90
10.14.17 | Nope, because I never came back after that. Well I tried to go last weekend to buy some picks but it was closed. |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | yeah i still love my cheap esp i bought years ago. i put duncan picks in there and its amazing tbh |
rodrigo90
10.14.17 | Green day songs sound pretty good on the telecaster though. |
Tyler.
10.14.17 | well yeah lol |
Zig
10.14.17 | That's why it's better to have a multi effects board with pedal. |
teamster
10.14.17 | rod...can you play? |
bloc
10.14.17 | "That's why it's better to have a multi effects board with pedal."
Fair enough, in the past few years the multi effect boards have gotten better and better. Plus they have other connectivity options etc than just 10 stomboxes built into 1 unit. Line 6 is probably the best when you take both quality and price into account I think. I used a Line 6 HD500 for a while, and now I'm with an Axe Fx 2 for more than 3 years. |
rodrigo90
10.14.17 | rod...can you play?
The best I can do is power chords and some solos...That's it, not a virtuoso player or anything like that. I'm a self taught guitarrist so, a one with actual learning is probably going to kill me in all aspects. |
50iL
10.14.17 | Don't buy Boss pedals overall, most are cheap trash |
rodrigo90
10.15.17 | Got it. |
teamster
10.15.17 | Can you imitate Matthew Weed? The master.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiR3rUCR0Nc |
bloc
10.15.17 | Boss does have some good shit imo. The old stuff at least, like their delay, tuner, and a few overdrives. Their Blues Driver is godly. |
50iL
10.15.17 | Yeah, their chorus pedal isn't too bad either. I'd still keep away from them though |
bloc
10.15.17 | Yeah the chorus is nice too. But yeah, once you get some cash and experience they would not be my tenth, let alone first, brand of choice lol |
onionbubs
10.15.17 | I love some boss pedals but more often than not (besides the blues driver which bloc already mentioned) their drive pedals are trash. they have amazing delay pedals and some modulation pedals tho (harmonist and flanger kills) |
bloc
10.15.17 | You ever heard the Keeley modded Blues Driver? It has an extra switch that makes the sound fatter. It's "boutique" so it's overpriced to hell, but Mooer, a brand one step above Joyo, has a clone called the Blues Mood and it is not only identical in sound, but half the size. |
Zig
10.15.17 | I own a Boss ME-25, nothing fancy, but I think it's pretty good, cheap and useful for an amateur player like me. |
bloc
10.16.17 | Zig, your modesty is refreshing |
CaimanJesus
10.16.17 | Rodrigo what's your A/S/L?
Mine's 20/Female/USA |
sixdegrees
12.15.17 | fine pedal tbh but the HM-2 is the one to get |
bloc
12.15.17 | lol good one |
sixdegrees
12.15.17 | DOD metal-X is another quality pedal |
sixdegrees
12.15.17 | I would run a boss cs-3 into a boss hm-2 into a line level alesis rack unit for some great tones |
bloc
12.15.17 | lmao this man knows tone |
