Rick and Morty Season 3 Ranked

Seeing as I barely listen to music these days, might as well make a list about TV instead. Season 3 was ok. It definitely didn't top the consistency and hilarity of season 2 but it definitely reached incredible highs and it was admirable how the formula was changed up with the same family dynamic not being present. It was also good to see the team actually try to have running themes in each episode that actually impacts the characters, leading to actual arcs that sort of culminates in the last season but it was a huge bummer when Beth's ending monologue was a bit of 'yeah, next season will be more like season 1', effectively undoing any of the permanent change established prior. Oh well, now to 2019 to hopefully undercover the growing list of loose ends in he Rick and Morty universe... or universes, I guess. List are recent figs.

The ABCs of Beth - For the most part, the humour falls flat and the synopsis of both plots are fairly bland and drawn out. I get that it's pretty important for the events in the next episode but Tommy as a character is very forgettable. I feel like trying to portray 'Beth is equally as crazy as Rick' could have been done in a funnier way. Also, despite what happened to Jerry in The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy, it just showed that there was no development or change that occured from that episode.

The Rickchurian Mortydate - Ok, so maybe the build up of evil Morty was mostly why this disappointed me but even so, it felt average by Rick and Morty standards. Beth's side plot, which was arguably more important than the main side plot, was pretty rushed and forced and tradeoffs between the President and Rick felt like they were stalling for run time. And what kind of a season finale was this?! Where was the ending conflict or the cliffhanger that the last two seasons left us with? This wasn't the grandiose season finale we all had in mind, unfortunately.

Pickle Rick - There isn't much to say about this other than fantastic visuals and a strong ending. Lacking a bit in comedy though. Not amazing but by no means bad either.
7 Mammal Hands
Anamalia

Rickmancing The Stone - Similar to Pickle Rick, there isn't much to say about this as it kind of falls into the same category of good but not great. However, the vengeful arm was thoroughly entertaining and it was good that we had at least one episode to actually have some kind of focus on Summer. Also, we did get the best meme to come from this season in the form of 'I AM ALIVE'.
6Falls of Rauros
The Light That Dwells in Rotten Wood

Morty's Mind Blowers - If there was an episode to truly highlight the hinted fragility of Rick and Morty's relationship with one another, this would definitely be it with how Morty can often be victimised by everyone. Each vignette was entertaining on its own and the 'scenario 4' part was genuinely hilarious. Plus, this had the best post-credits scene in the whole series.
5Der Weg Einer Freiheit
Finisterre

The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy - So personally, I find Jerry to be an integral part of the show, even if he is more often than not, an annoying cunt. The fact that he's been barely used this season made the show feel a little more hollow, so an episode focussing on his character since the simulation episode was refreshing. Shame all of Jerry's potential 'growth' was shown to not have actually occurred from the events of ep.9. However, the B-plot is strong as well and Morty's sinister tone at the end was also another great way to highlight his progression to a more independent character.
4Falls of Rauros
Vigilance Perennial

Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender - I found it a bit sad that it took 4 episodes to finally get to the first truly funny episode of the series. Whilst the series doesn't need to be funny to be at its best, the comedy side of the show felt pretty lacking this season but this is arguably the funniest episode. It's great from start to finish, with the Avengers and Saw parody, the bait and switch for last obstacle and even the last line of dialogue of 'who the fuck is noob noob'.
3Sun of the Sleepless
To The Elements

Rest and Ricklaxation - I'm bored to typing, this doesn't need an explanation.
2Everything Everything
A Fever Dream

The Rickshank Redemption - Clever, funny, witty and szechuan sauce. The perfect way to start the season to tie up what occurred at the end of season 2 and set up the more interesting concept of the citadel attempting to rebuild itself.

The Ricklantis Mixup - Definitely ranks as one of the best Rick and Morty episodes of all time. The way it was able to fully flesh out a tiny idea that was the citadel and make it into its own world was truly incredible. The variations of Mortys, Ricks and their differing personalities were a joy to watch and spreading the focus on 4 different connecting plots showed this show at its finest. This one kept surprising me and even though the ending was pretty obvious, it was still made me fanboy the fuck out. Also, it's good to see that they're pretty competent at creating an ongoing arc. It's just a shame we'll have to wait two more years to see any conclusion from this.
