REC ROULETTE ROUND 6 --- Butcher Blackmail

for oblique omniverse, psychedelic fripp-out and blung..
1Charles Mingus
The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

Imagine this scenario if you will, you walk into that lousy hovel you call your domicile, and see a shadowy figure standing behind your loved one, perhaps a beloved auntie or your cat or a bowl of apricots you've been looking forward to eating. The shadowy figure says - Hand over your two best albums, son, or the loved one gets it!! Bereft and bamboozled, you comply. But you decide that you won't go down without some semblance of a fight, and so you slip in one horrible album along with one amazing one. In other words, give me one album that you think is one of the most beautiful, perfect, halo around its arse heavenly albums ever made. And one that's so terrible, incompetent, uninspired and fetid, that it can bring the world to grinding halt..

3Manic Street Preachers
Everything Must Go

Unique Best

Involved, poetic, vast and Welsh, Manic Street Preachers do grandiose political romanticism like few other bands can.. or should.. They've always been one of those bands I want to like, and so i try once every few years.. but i don't like them.. fuck, i don't like them at all.. swing and a miss on this one.. 3/5 for some tasty guitar tones.. fuck the rest of it in a pitch black tunnel with only a birthday candle to light the way..

Unique Worst

The sound of a worm crawling through a sewage pipe of a city long obliterated by atomic exposure.. which is to say, silence would have been better.. fucking hell.. good choice.. 0.3/5

Final score -- 3 - 0.3 = 2.7
5Todd Rundgren
A Wizard, A True Star

Fripp Best

I like this one quite a bit.. it's wild and varied, and this is the level of proggy and psych rock I can handle.. there's a tangible pop heart beating under all of it, made all screwy with Beefheart-esque chaos, beautifully.. Not something I would ever pick as one of the most perfect albums, but I get why Fripp did.. and I enjoyed the hell out of listening to it.. 3.5/5
6The Beach Boys
Summer in Paradise

Fripp Worst

Yea, this was shite.. utter shite.. I was never a fan of the beach boys to begin with.. ugh.. 1/5 because it was just shite standard music.. almost what a humanoid robot would produce if tasked with making 'music..'

Final score -- 3.5 - 1 = 2.5
7Marillion
Misplaced Childhood

bgill Best

I do not dig prog (you and Fripp keep fucking rec'ing it).. but this thing is so pretty and bright-eyed, it's sort of hard to deny it.. again, not something i would consider a perfect album, but i enjoyed listening to it.. 3.5/5
8Hello Kitty Suicide Club
^_^

bgill Worst

the soundtrack to a sega game i never wanted to play as a kid.. novelty horseshit that pissed me off.. fuck everything, the earth died screaming.. 0.2/5

Final score -- 3.5 - 0.2 = 3.3 (and the WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
