Papa Universe
08.08.17 | I doubt you'll enjoy Hail Spirit Noir |
bgillesp
08.08.17 | I already checked Mayhem in Blue and didn't like it so best to avoid another of theirs. This site is so dang slow right now. |
Papa Universe
08.08.17 | It's a Psychedelic Rock played as Progressive, hope that'll do.
Black Mountain - In the Future |
bgillesp
08.09.17 | That's fine. I tried to say this earlier but couldn't with the servers. If you want me to give HSN another shot, this will be your chance to make me, you just probably won't win the round. |
butcherboy
08.09.17 | Slapp Happy and Henry Cow - Desperate Straights.. |
bgillesp
08.09.17 | Ooh, I'm excited about that |
bgillesp
08.09.17 | I'm excited to see what Fripp will rec too. Hint: not a huge Genesis fan. |
butcherboy
08.09.17 | Fripp is the one who rec'ed me Slapp Happy and Henry Cow awhile ago, so I feel good about this one.. it's a perfect mix of my taste and prog working fantastically.. |
Frippertronics
08.10.17 | gonna give you two options, both of which I love dearly and play on the regular
The Enid - The Seed And The Sower (concept album, symphonic, mostly instrumental save the last two songs, will make you weep like a bitch)
Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A True Star (ritalin prog, side-long piece that goes to the upper echelons of psychedelia before coming down from its cloud on the second side) |
Frippertronics
08.10.17 | so pick whatever one sounds more appealing to you |
bgillesp
08.10.17 | I'm going with rundgren only because I've checked In the Region of Summer Stars. I'll get around to both though |
Frippertronics
08.10.17 | ye
personally like Seed a bit more than Region but yeah you'll enjoy the Rundgren guaranteed |
bgillesp
08.10.17 | That's cool. I thought Region was really good but not mind blowing, so excited to check if it's better. I may decide on that on instead. I'll put the albums up when I have the ratings ready so I'll decide by then |
Frippertronics
08.11.17 | well, first of all, did you check the original or the 80s remake, because the 80s remake isn't as good |
bgillesp
08.11.17 | I'm not sure on that so I'll definitely recheck and make sure it's the original. (I think it was but I wasn't aware there were 2). Checking Rundgren now |
bgillesp
08.11.17 | The YouTube version I listened to had the correct album cover. Is there a major difference that would let me know it's authentic when I do listen to it again? |
bgillesp
08.11.17 | I should have these up soon |
Frippertronics
08.11.17 | Both versions are on youtube, however I will point out the differences when I have the time (at work atm) |
Frippertronics
08.11.17 | Double post |
bgillesp
08.12.17 | It's up. Butcher won. I feel like both butch and Fripp gave recs that will grow on me though. Unique... Just redeem yourself next round. It'll be live albums. I'll also let you know my thoughts on the Enid when I get around Fripp. |
bgillesp
08.12.17 | Short write ups because apparently I'm more busy not in work than in work |
Frippertronics
08.12.17 | live albums?
unique and butcher beware |
butcherboy
08.12.17 | Fripp, I feel like you deserve at least part of the credit.. you're the one who rec'ed me that album to begin with.. |
butcherboy
08.12.17 | also, I've got some stellar goddamn live albums up my sleeve.. |
Papa Universe
08.12.17 | Before the next round starts, could you check out this?
https://theauroraobservatory.bandcamp.com/album/failure-of-imagination
It was my second choice, but I went with Black Mountain, cause it was more well known. |
bgillesp
08.14.17 | 10 minutes in and they've poorly stitched at least 5 genres end to end with no blending. I'm sorry but Captain Brown Pants and My Bloody Sublime Voltas don't understand good song structure, and that's essential for good prog, which it seems you still cannot. |
bgillesp
08.14.17 | Would've made a pun on the album title but so many freaking reviews on this site do that and I won't stoop to that level. The individual sections are good, but there's no song structure to help them flow. Probably better you stuck with Black Mountain even though these guys are much closer to prog. |
bgillesp
08.14.17 | And goodness the drumming is boring. Sorry to hate on it so much but this is probably gonna be 2.5 range for me |
bgillesp
10.30.17 | butcher bump |
