Good or Bad? The Competition ROUND 9

This time around, let's celebrate the unknown. List of participants: anatelier, DeadlyNightShade, Sevengill, Conmaniac, Drifter, dbizzles, AsleepInTheBack, bgillesp, CompostCompote
18Master P
Louisiana Hot Sauce

Drifter's WORST
Too Much

Not godawful, but rather unimpressive. I think, that's the worst I can really say about it. 2.3/5

OS: 1,0
17The Hermit Kings
Warcry/Cashing In

-ELIMINATED-
Drifter's BEST
Cashing In

A nice and gentle track that has a lot of grower potential, but as of right now, I am not entirely sold on its soft Pop-y kind of songwriting and weak refrain with all of its 'Whooo ooo'-s. I guess I need some sort of distinct payoff. 3.3/5
16The Telescopes
As Light Return

DeadlyNightShade's WORST
Down On Me

Yeah, you hit it where you needed it. You rec'd me an Electronica/Ambient (maybe Drone, I'm not sure) track, and if there's anything that goes over my head further than either of those two, it's those two combined. This is just drab, but on the other hand, it didn't bore me to irritation. It's just really uneventful, but I liked the subtle instrumental backing drowned in the far reach of the production. 2.5/5

OS: 1,1
15Vada Wave
Out of Body

-ELIMINATED-
DeadlyNightShade's BEST
Escape

An emotional and riveting song that ventures from soft and intiguing to explosive pretty quickly. It's a catchy tune that has a lot of replay value. But I will be honest, the original rec (Very Best Part) was much better in my opinion. 3.6/5
14Pole Younger
Hal's Number Is 1, Or Is It? EP

Conmaniac's WORST
Boys Kill Boys

Agoraphobiac's bedroom recordings present their magnum opus. 1.7/5

OS: 1,3
13Point Point
Contrastive Focus Reduplication

-1 SAVE from the deposit
Conmaniac's BEST
Life in Grey

What did I say about disliking Electronica? Well, at least this one has some decent and nicely weird production. But yeah, still a dud. 3.0/5
12Cowboy Troy
Loco Motive

dbizzles' WORST
I Play Chicken With the Train

Country-Rap....ugh. 1.3/5

OS: 2,0
11Hectic Hobo
Our Medicine Will Do You In

dbizzles' BEST
Drive Me to Drinking

Not a bad song in terms of songwriting or vocals, but instrumentally and musically kind of ungripping, it seemed to me. 3.4/5
103OH!3
SHT: From The Vault

Sevengill's WORST
Dirty Mind

Aah, that's the song that all of those bands like Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy and such base their sound on...at least not their lyrical content. 1.4/5

OS: 2,2
9The Visit
Offering

Sevengill's BEST
Offering

A dramatic 11 minutes long cello monster that at first engulfs you and impresses with its musical finesse, but then gets just slightly tedious. 3.6/5
8Roro Perrot
Execution des Hautes Ouvres

bgillesp's WORST
5

Smart move, submitting an anti-song. They are never good. Ever. 1.1/5

OS: 2,6
7Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Rks

bgillesp's BEST
Cocaine Jesus

Good god, the songwriting on this track is near-phenomenal. The intricate melodywork and the musical progression that occurs simply engulfs, even though instrumentally it isn't exactly the grandest track, but rather a mild affair. It does, however, sound like it could use some sort of addition to its energy and execution that would make it just just just perfect, but what we have here as of right now is pretty good too. 3.7/5
6Kid Rock
Fire It Up

anatelier's WORST
Balls in Your Mouth

For those of you, who weren't sure yet, whether Kid Rock is godawful or not. 1.6/5

OS: 2,6
5KU
Ganja

anatelier's BEST
A Happening

This is quite a wild track with a lot of obscure instrumental passages that might not seem fitting at first, but once you get used to them, they're actually quite a treat. But once that oddity combines itself with the profound vocal melodies that were presented in the beginning, it turns into something absolutely mesmerising. I just wish that it maybe used that part a little more and turned the heavier parts on during the vocal performance. That'd definitely elevate the song's beauty levels way above just 4.0/5
4Horse Lords
Hidden Cities

AsleepInTheBack's WORST
Life Without Dead Time

Yeah, this is just weird and nondescript in every way. It just sort of drags on with its profoundly obscure instrumental passages that make no sense to me musically and I can't stand it...I really can't. 1.5/5

OS: 2,8
3Sons Of Granville
Sons Of Granville

AsleepInTheBack's BEST
April Song

This is some unexpectadly gorgeous instrumental violin+guitar combo that just strikes you with beauty in every moment of its duration. It is such a profoundly sympathetic track that I couldn't help, but replay it like 10 times in a row. 4.3/5
2Minimal Man
Sex With God

CompostCompote's WORST
Fuck Me

Some semi-ambient artsy mess with sounds of squirrels fucking at the distant background. Yeah, that's pleasant, innit? 1.5/5

OVERALL SCORE: 3,0
1The Fall
Bingo-Master's Break-Out!

-VICTORIOUS-
CompostCompote's BEST
Psycho Mafia

Ah, dammit! This just throws me back into the days of my youth. I remember seeing bands like this in small clubs. But those lads were ususally teenagers and their bands never lived longer than a year or so. Goddamn you, Compost, you made me tear up at nostalgia. Bloody hell! 4.5/5
