Rnd 7: Taco's Annihilation Recommendation Nation

We back in business! And its a ~special~ round! THIS IS THE LAST ROUND BEFORE PHASE 2, BRING THE RECS HARD DUDES
1The Human Experience
Broken Open

ROUND 7

COVERS

Saves:

L4titudes - 2
pjorn - 1

Keep jams under 8 minutes please

Update/Patch 1.0.0.1:
Album save nerf.
I've come to realize having multiple saves can be OP so there is a nerf. Album Saves work by the loser challenging a user of his choice to a double song off and the winner receives a .1 bonus to their album score. This remains the same. However, if you have to use a save a 2nd time, both of the songs the loser chooses will have a .2 penalty. If you need a 3rd save, there's a .4 penalty and so on.
Other than that, everything remains the same!

"La Mer (Charles Trenet cover)"

The first cover of the day and it’s a live rendition. The song’s got these nice trumpets coming in periodically and the guitar tone is funky fresh. Even though I don’t speak french (:c), I clearly heard Julio showcase some nice vocal chops.

3.5/5
3Jeff Buckley
Live at Sin-é

50iL

"Je N'en Connais Pas La Fin (Edith Piaf cover)"

Very beautiful voice, I think Jeff did a great job with this one. The language change ups were awesome, didnt feel out of place but was noticeable enough to give the cover some flair.

3.7/5

Don't Let the Bastards Get You Down

butcherboy

"The Hawk (Kris Kristofferson cover)"

Felt this one pretty hard. Tom’s vocal job here is tragically beautiful and seemed to do the lyrics great justice. Every guitar note that came in felt meaningful and important.

3.9/5

*ROUND WINNER*
5Faith No More
Live at the Brixton Academy

Dewinged

"War Pigs (Black Sabbath cover)

I don’t think Patton’s voice really suits the song too well but overall i think it was a good cover. The song is sped up a little bit and Patton does the best he can and it adds some differentiation, but i would’ve liked to hear more.

3.4/5
6Nico
Chelsea Girl

hal1ax

"These Days (Jackson Browne cover)

Not too keen on her vocals sadly but I think the cover is well done. The subtle violins in the background are lovely. Have to say didnt like it much at all on first listen but second listen, i was feelin it more.

3.4/5

"Big Ballad of Nothing (Elliott Smith cover)"

*.1 penalty for artist already rec'd*

Another round of sad white chicks with a guitar. Fuck it tho, I do quite like her voice and I think she puts a lot of feeling into the track. It definitely sounds very Julien.

3.5(3.6)/5
8Jacob Collier
In My Room

sincerelyaural

"In My Room (Beach Boys cover)"

Very chill, almost soul/jazzy. I appreciate how Jacob was able to take his own spin on the song and really change it up while having the core properties of the original still prominent. The pianos at the end were great.

3.5/5
9The Great Old Ones
EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy

Archelirion

"Bachelorette (Bjork cover)"

Well it certainly doesnt sound like bjork, so props right off the bat for making the song their own. After jamming the original song you can still gets hints of the original in there. Just replace everything with fuckin riffz.

3.7/5
10Botch
We Are the Romans

pjorn

"The Wizard (Black Sabbath cover)"

Pretty much what you’d expect from a chaotic hardcore band if they covered sabbath. A heavy, moshy version of sabbath riffz. The band certainly put their own spin on the track and its pretty darn cool. A safe choice but it worked.

3.6/5
11The Field
Yesterday and Today

L4titudes

"Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime (The Korgis cover)"

The spin on this song was really cool and a great idea. The song is pleasant and relaxing but meanders a but by the end of its run. Overall really nice tho, I liked it.

3.6/5
12The Cardigans
Emmerdale

ArsMoriendi

"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Black Sabbath cover)"

Like the Bjork cover, this one was a total 180 on the song’s original sound. I think this one works tho. It’s got that lounge-y indie rock vibe with nice female vocals. You can hardly tell it’s even a cover outside the lyrics.

3.5/5
13Obliteration
Goat Skull Crown

superluminals

"Reincarnation (Necrophagia cover)"

m/’s pretty hard and definitely sounds like obliteration. Kinda wish there was a bit more done to make the cover feel unique tho. For some reason the bandcamp version is called “Devil Pig” and i don’t know why.

3.4/5
