| 2002 | 1 | | Arch Enemy Wages of Sin
One of the best melodeath albums in my opinion. Almost every song here is great. | 2 | | Amon Amarth Versus the World
A rather typical Amon Amarth album - not a bad time, but mind-numbingly unmemorable. | 3 | | Symphony X The Odyssey
Definitely a good album. I'm not a huge fan of "old school" (pre-PL) Symphony X, so I'm not super crazy about it, but it's still undeniably a solid album.
[UPDATE]
The Odyssey is one of those albums I love more and more with each time I listen. It's definitely a fantastic album. Production is not the best and like I already said, I don't love the older, thinner musical style of early Symphony X. But it still manages to be a very very strong album, despite everything. Highlights are Inferno (Unleash the Fire), Accolade II, King of Terrors, and of course the epic 24-minute-long title track. | 4 | | Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Not very consistant and I can't say I really love every song, but the solid musicianship is still there and every song has a lot of aspects to love. The good songs are great however - the massive, disc-long title track is an amazing epic and a delight to listen to. But the highlight for me will always be the opening track, The Glass Prison - my favorite DT song and one of my all time favorite songs ever. | 5 | | Opeth Deliverance
Opeth is a band I so desperately want to love, but fail every time. My main problem is that all of their songs sound so similar to me. I especially want to love Deliverance, as it contains the title track, which is one of my all time favorites. But after so many chances, I still can't bring myself to fall in love with it. I like everything here but nothing (other than my beloved song) is especially memorable or unique enough to stand out. I really hope I'll be able to finally see its magic one day. | 6 | | The Flower Kings Unfold the Future | 7 | | Dark Tranquillity Damage Done | |
