09.11.08 | Since you're not really into hiphop now, Flobots may seem interesting enough... but don't let that fool you; they're pretty lame. Check out The Roots first... probably the albums "Game Theory" and "Phrenology" will appeal to you the most at this point. DJ Shadow's "Endtroducing" is a classic instrumental hiphop album that also serves as a gateway to a lot of non-hiphop fans.
Being white has nothing to do with the music you like... but it typically has something to do with your social-class situation. It's hard for white people to appreciate stories of the ghetto, gang mentality, etc... that's all they're saying. So basically, keep an open mind, and don't judge an artist based solely on this type of lyrical content.
I gotta admit though, A Tribe Called Quest (one of Cocaine's highest rated hiphop artists/groups) is a pretty common point of "white" crossover appeal. You may want to look into their "Low End Theory" album. I'm personally not a huge fan, too white for me ;-p | backinhindsight
